Pedophile in Borongan

‘I think the victims in Borongan should do the same. Sue the bastard and his superiors.’

POPE Dismisses Borongan Priest for Sex Abuse.” So said headlines a few days ago after the CBCP disclosed actions taken by Pope Francis regarding a Borongan priest.

The priest served in a minor seminary in Borongan and is accused of sexually abusing minors, the news reports said.

Note the plural term, minors. Which means it didn’t only happen once. And, chances are, it didn’t only happen in one day. Or maybe even in one week.

I will call the CBCP to ask for more details. But already so many questions cross my mind.

Did the good Bishop of Borongan know? When? What actions did he take and how soon did he act? You see, if you ever read the book “Spotlight” or watched the movie based on the book then you’d know that in the Archdiocese of Boston, a number of priests had been accused of sexual offenses — but these offenses were covered up by the Catholic hierarchy.

And this coverup has happened in other parts of the US of A, as well as in Australia where a Cardinal was the guilty party.

Jeesas.

The result of the Boston investigative reporting was a series of lawsuits that the complainants won against the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese then had to sell valuable real estate to pay for the damages imposed by US courts. Thankfully, the wealthy Jesuit order stepped in, buying Archdiocesan property, in a way keeping the real estate for the Church.

I think the victims in Borongan should do the same. Sue the bastard and his superiors.

Send the bastard to jail for the rest of his unpriestly life. And find out how many other pedophiles there are within the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Borongan.

Not to mention the whole Philippines.

Actually, the news about the pedophile priest of Borongan hit me hard. And made me exclaim “God is good!” That’s because, for the longest time, the Bishop of Borongan has been waging a war on responsible mining, equating even responsible mining with irresponsible ones. For him, one irresponsible miner makes all miners irresponsible, and that mining is bad, bad, bad.

Well, pedophilia is bad, bad, bad too. And if I were to use the bishop’s twisted logic that one guilty party makes all guilty, then one Borongan pedophile priest makes all Borongan priests guilty of the same abominable crime.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, yes?

The priest now dismissed should be given his day in court.

His victims, once he is found guilty, should be recompensed.

And his superiors should be sanctioned — at the very least for their warped logic.

Amen?
