‘Thirty-one years on the air is an achievement and Charo and the rest of the crew deserve all the praise for the inspirational story that unfolded every Saturday in its whole run.’

How sad that after 31 years, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” will be bidding its viewers goodbye.

“Maalala Mo Kaya” is now part of Filipinos’ lives. When someone’s life story turns tragic or unusual, people readily describe it as “pang MMK” or “pang Maalaala Mo Kaya.”

The sad news was announced last night by the drama anthology’s host, Charo Santos-Concio. With the haunting melody of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” playing as background music, Charo paid homage to the writers, directors, staff, and stars who have lent their talents to the program in the past thirty-one years. Most of all, she said thank you to the show’s loyal following because the program would not have lasted without the viewers. Thirty-one years on the air is an achievement and Charo and the rest of the crew deserve all the praise for the inspirational story that unfolded every Saturday in its whole run.

“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nakaraan at sa anumang paraan na maaari pa tayong muling magkita,” was Charo’s parting shot.

Rep. Geraldine Roman

Representative Geraldine Roman really made a lasting impression at a recent face to face meet up with some members of the entertainment media at Romulo’s in Quezon City.

Tall and soft-spoken, Rep. Geraldine is a strong and smart lady who has taken the mantle for LGBTQ+ members of society. She is also unafraid to express her views on a lot of issues, including about showbiz and is interested to interview Heart Evangelista and husband, Sen. Chiz Escudero (“ma scoop-an ko kayo,” she said with a chuckle), the Marcos siblings – BBM, Sen. Imee and Irene, and also Kris Aquino (“I will ask her, ‘kumusta ka na?'”).

Well, Rep. Geraldine can do all these, and most importantly, what she does in congress, in her new YouTube channel, “Geraldine Romantik,” which will drop its first episode on November 30.

The channel will allow viewers to know up close and personal the representative of Bataan’s first district. Its initial salvo revolves around the theme “Let’s get to know Rep. Geraldine Roman.” The lady solon is the first trangender person to be elected to the Philippine House of Representatives where she has been designated as chairperson of the house committee on women and gender equality.

In it, Rep. Geraldine will talk about herself and her family. Her brother, Atty. Tony Roman III, will also make an appearance.

Ms. Roman says there’s more to the new channel than being just a play of words.
The 55-year-old solon said on a recent post on one of her social media accounts: “Romantik ako dahil I value he time with the people I serve. Pinapahalagahan ko ang bawat kwento na kanilang ibinabahagi sa akin ag patuloy akong maninindigan para sa kanilang karapatan para sa maginhawang buhay. Kayo, paano kayo naging romantik today?”

Among the many advocacies and accomplishments of Rep. Roman in the six years that she has been in Congress – she’s on her third time – are bills covering education, health care, and environmental equality. Some of her advocacies are equality, Oh My Gulay! Healthy na, May Kita Pa Program, Ecotourism, and Basic Digital Literacy Training.

Rep. Roman was named one of the 100 Leading Global Thinkers of 2016 by US-based Foreign Policy magazine. She was also on the list of “13 Inspiring Woman of 2016” compiled by Time Magazine.
