Law’s value unimpeachable

CHIEF Presidential Legal Adviser Juan Ponce Enrile makes more sense than many in government on the intention of the INC in its huge “Rally for Peace and Unity.” He openly contradicts his boss, the President, who opposes the impeachment move against Vice President Sara Duterte, knowing too well that her impending impeachment will ultimately be good for his administration and for the rest of the country.

Enrile emphasizes that there is an existing law explicit in our Constitution on impeachment and its process which cannot be tampered with or amended by anyone or any group. He says the INC rally was “more like a political pressure to hinder an independent branch of government from performing its constitutional duty.”

Indeed, people should value the laws enshrined in our Charter as he clarifies that impeachment is only for the removal from office of any impeachable officer. This does not involve any criminal conviction or imprisonment. Indeed, the law virtually loses its value, as he interjects, if it is ignored or violated to satisfy the interests of any group.

With his long years in governance and politics, Enrile is well aware of the real intention of the INC which has wielded its large influence as a political power. It is a fact that many INC members are in high positions in government, especially in the police and military. Is this a form of payback for the INC’s support or submission to its constant pressure on any sitting administration?

From Christian author Max Lucado on true success in life and work: “From where does success come? God. ‘It is the Lord your God who gives you power to become rich.’ And why does He give it. For His reputation… To fulfill the covenant he made with your ancestors.’ God blessed Israel in order to billboard his faithfulness. When foreigners saw the fruitful farms of the Promised Land, God did not want them to think about the farmer but the farmer’s maker. Their success advertised God.”

Nothing has changed. God lets you excel so you can make him known. And you can be sure of one things: God will make you good at something. This is his principle: ‘True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life’ (Proverbs 22:4)”
