‘I have a better sense of self worth, I have learned from my mistakes. – Kylie Padilla’
Kylie Padilla
KYLIE Padilla is happy that her comeback TV series, “Bolera,” is rating very well on primetime. This means the public has accepted her anew after her failed marriage to Aljur Abrenica.
“Nagpapasalamat po talaga ako, lahat kami ng mga kasama ko, sina Rayver Cruz at Jak Roberto, sa mainit na pagtanggap ng viewers sa aming show,” says Kylie. “It inspires us para lalong pagbutihin ang aming trabaho and we assure them na mas masisiyahan sila sa mga darating pang episodes ng ‘Bolera’ in the coming weeks.”
In a GMA interview, she admitted she felt so low after her marriage crumbled. “I lost my self esteem, lahat. I felt I have to build from the ground up, while raising my two sons. And it’s not easy, kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa GMA for giving me another break. It’s not an easy journey, but it made me more mature in my outlook in life. I now cannot just think of myself because of my two sons, Alas and Axl. Ang feeling ko noon, pagod na pagod na ako, but now, I have more peace of mind at handang lumaban sa lahat ng iba pang challenges na darating.”

Is she entertaining new suitors? “Yes, may mga nagpaparamdam. Pero hindi na ako tulad ng dati na mai-in love ka, tapos mababaliw ka, na parang siya na lang yung buong mundo mo. For the longest time, hindi na ako ganoon. I have a better sense of self worth, I have learned from my mistakes. Alangan namang you keep on making the same mistakes, ‘di ba? Kasi before, ako lang ang nag-a-adjust. But now, kayo ang mag-adjust sa akin kasi number one na for me ang mga anak ko at ang sarili ko.”

Ryza Cenon and the whole cast of the horror movie, “Rooftop”, are glad that after its successful theatrical release, it is now shown via streaming on Vivamax. She has done a horror movie before where she played a “manananggal.”
“But ako ang nananakot doon. Now, ako ang tinatakot as the leader of our barkada who is haunted by a ghost. Dito, pinag-aralan kong mabuti ang role ko para ma-convince ko talaga ang viewers na natatakot talaga ang character ko sa mga eksenang minumulto na ako ni Kuya Epy Quizon. I realized na mas madaling manakot kaysa ikaw ang matakot.”
In “Rooftop,” Epy died because of the prank they pulled on him while they’re drinking and partying on the rooftop of their school building. He later returns to haunt their barkada that includes Marco Gumabao, Ella Cruz, Rhen Escano, Marco Gallo and Andrew Muhlach.
“Rooftop” is directed by top horror director Yam Laranas. How’s her experience working with him?
“He’s amazing, kasi hindi lang siya ang director ng movie, he is also the screenwriter and the director of photography, so nakakabilib siya na kaya niya lahat gawin ‘yun. Kung titingnan mo, nakakapagod, pero obvious na siya, nag-e-enjoy lang sa ginagawa niya.”
They shot the movie on location at the now abandoned Quezon Institute and since Ryza has an opened third eye, she can really feel the presence of wandering spirits in the place.
“When I feel something creepy on the set, doon na lang ako humuhugot para mairehistro ko on cam na mukha talaga akong takot na takot. Kasi sa scenes na tinatakot kami ng multo, wala naman talaga siya, but we have to pretend na nandun siya and we are so frightened.”
Off cam, she remains to be a doting mama to her baby boy, Night, who’s turning 2 years old in October.

Pops Fernandez and hitmakers Hajji Alejandro, Nonoy Zuniga, Marco Sison and Rey Valera have produced many hit local songs through the years. Which ones are their personal favorites among their hit songs?
“With me, it’s my first hit song, ‘Dito’,” says Pops. “Hindi ko na makanta ngayon kasi it brings back so many memories at naiiyak ako. Kalalaya lang ng daddy ko noon (Eddie Fernandez, who was jailed for many years) so I cannot forget the song.”
“For me, una ‘yung first hit single ko, ‘Panakip Butas’,” says Hajji. “Then ‘Tag-araw, Tag-ulan’. Malaki ang kinita ko sa mga kantang ‘yan. Also close to my heart is the Ryan Cayabyab song that won sa Metropop, ‘Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika’. Next year, I will be celebrating my 50th year in showbiz. I intend to have a special concert at kakantahin ko lahat yan.”
How about Nonoy Zuñiga? “Ako naman, favorite ko ang ‘Love Without Time’ written by the late Willy Cruz as it came when I was having a struggle sa schooling ko and sa lovelife ko. I’m asking which is more important between them. Siempre, I chose my studies at dahil doon, nakatapos ako ng medicine. Othes favorites are ‘Doon Lang’, ‘Kumusta Ka’ and ‘Never Ever Say Goodbye’.”
Marco Sison has two personal faves. “Dalawa sa hit songs ko ang lagi kong kinakanta. Una ‘yung breakthrough song kong ‘Make Believe’. Doon ako unang nakilala. Then ‘yung love song na naging classic, ‘My Love Will See You Through’. Isa pa is ‘Si Aida, Si Lorna o Si Fe’ na naging hit movie rin.”
And for Rey Valera? “Sa akin, ‘yung song kong ‘Malayo Pa ang Umaga’, kasi it reminds me of our country. Compared to other countries na napuntahan ko, lalo na kapag nakapag-abroad ka at bumalik ka na rito sa atin, talagang malayo pa ang umaga sa atin kumpara sa mga naging progreso ng ibang bansa. Nakakalungkot.”
