Kind history?

LIFE’S approaching twilight brings us closer to the next life, which many believe would welcome us with endearment. Many of us still nurse more regrets than remorse, as well as dark secrets that hide the other part of our being that somehow just existed and never really lived. Such stuff seemed tragically worthwhile bringing along to the grave.

EDSA hero Juan Ponce Enrile would have probably become president if he had flowed with the sudden restored tide of democracy under the new government of President Cory Aquino, instead of trying to bring it down because of the leftists in her Cabinet. Most of his grievances were valid concerns but the route he and the rebel military officers took miserably stalled the economic and political advance of our country.

‘In his memoir or autobiography, Enrile invites the kindness of history even if he fails to exhibit any remorse for his reported role in several coup tries for which he was arrested and jailed for rebellion and the deaths of soldiers and civilians.’

Another EDSA hero, Fidel Ramos, had the better sense of refusing to join the growing military dissent and proved that he was man enough to show his zealous loyalty to President Aquino and the Constitution. Twice, according to insider info at the AFP main headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, he was tempted to break away from the beleaguered government, especially at the height of the eighth and bloodiest military coup attempt. But Ramos stuck it out with the President and subdued the series of upheavals as the then Defense secretary.

Living to be 100 years old is a divine opportunity indeed from God to face the new life that never ends with kindness, compassion and abiding truth. Ultimately, wealth, power and reputation matter little in the march of history.

The following is an enlightening read from the introduction of the book “Biblical Keys to Financial Prosperity” by the highly esteemed healing evangelist Kenneth E. Hagin.

“Many good Christian people have never entered into the dimension of prosperity that God intended for them, and one reason they haven’t is a lack of understanding in this area. If you want to walk in the perfect will of God and experience His richest and best for your life, you’ve got to do the perfect will of God. That requires honoring and obeying God and His Word.

“The Word of God has a great deal to say about prosperity for the believer. Many Christians are not prospering today because they are not willing and obedient to the call of God on their lives or to some specific direction God has given them. Others simply need to get their thinking straightened out so they can think, talk, and act in line with God’s word concerning prosperity.

“Still others give financially with wrong motives – just to get something in return. Or they give motivated by guilt or fear instead of by faith and love. And some Christians dishonor God and His Word, not only by failing to tithe and give offerings but in the way they conduct their business affairs.

“My family and I used to struggle greatly in this area, just barely making it financially for many years. We weren’t scraping the bottom of the barrel; we were underneath the barrel and the barrel was on top of us! But praise God, the Word works! Prosperity came to us as we learned to act on the Word of God in that area.

“Success in God does not come overnight. And, if you’re not prospering in life right now, your prosperity in God won’t appear overnight either. But, if you’ll continually honor and obey God and His Word, it will come.”
