Kathryn Bernardo simply stuns as she graces Mega Magazine’s April 2024 self-love issue!

In the cover shoot, Kathryn looks so gorgeous as always! She is all grown up, wearing bohemian fashion and showcasing her toned physique amidst  the beautiful view of El Nido, Palawan.

The interview with the fashion magazine was quite a breakthrough because the actress opened up for the first time about moving on, healing, and forgiveness, following her split with Daniel Padilla in November of last year.

Here are some of the valuable lessons that may be gleaned from the interview:

Compartmentalize and learn how to manage professional commitments while overcoming a break up.

Don’t make yourself look like  a victim for people to look bad and sorry for you. Heal and always look at the bright side of things.

Distance is a way of protecting your peace.

Kathryn also spoke about forgiveness, emphasizing she could only forgive people who deserve it. She said, “Ang lalim kasi ng word na forgiveness For me, you can forgive people who deserve it. But when I forgive you, it doesn’t mean that I have to keep you in my life. I forgive you for my peace of mind, for clarity, and for everything.

“But it doesn’t mean na puwede kang bumalik It depends. I’ll just keep my distance; you keep your distance. We’re okay like that. I mean, kunwari [for example], I got hurt, why would I allow you to come back? It depends. It’s a case-to-case basis,” she added.

This interview showcases Kathryn’s newfound sense of self. She asserts her individuality, no longer living in the shadow of her past relationship. Similarly, Daniel Padilla, in the aftermath of their breakup, faces heightened scrutiny, thus emphasizing the importance of focusing on one’s craft as an artist.

Now is the time for both Kathryn and Daniel to elevate their projects, to prove their mettle as actors and performers. This presents an opportune time to carve their own distinct paths in the entertainment industry.

Amidst all the issue on family property and inheritance which has become quite a social sin when brought out publicly, family matters should best be kept as family matters.

We feel for our colleague, the multi-awarded and world class journalist Rico Hizon who does not deserve this issue at all. He is at the peak of his broadcast career, earning recent back-to-back honors at the Asian Television and Asian Academy Creative Awards – and no family squabble which was supposed to be settled internally can take away his being an excellent broadcast journalist as proven by his track record.

Again, like Kathryn, the best weapon is always a good work.

Speaking of good works, all these should be affirmed everyday because there is wisdom in believing that what we don’t affirm dies.

And the recent death of my good friend and batchmate, former Senior Deputy Executive Secretary and Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Atty. Hubert Dominic B. Guevara solidified our resolve to finally do a podcast on what I earlier wrote about here in Malaya – a living eulogy.

For some,  Hubert’s life was short – but it was a truly well lived life my friend had! We remember in one Malacañang function, Hubert sent me a photo of his idol, our good friend Congressman Richard Gomez! The two shared many similarities. Both are self-made family men, devoted husbands to beautiful and accomplished wives, and great dads who have formidable careers and accomplishments in government service. Both loved sports and maintained fit physique.

Over the past five years of knowing Hubert, we’ve gleaned valuable lessons that we now recognize resonate closely with the principles embodied by Richard–known as Goma among friends–in our life.

With their inner circle, they were willing and wanting to explore depths a little more. They both taught us not to try to get out of a conversation and not to reroute to safe territory or  take the quickest exit to keep us safe from answering the bigger questions.

My friend Hubert went for the answers that didn’t just look good but felt good.

He lived a life that refused to delay joy.

One that redefined success.

One that celebrated wins.

One that admitted hardships.

One that invited rest and time for play.

One that stopped hiding, stopped shrinking.

One that didn’t numb the pain.

One that gave permission to feel.

One that created space for enjoying the benefits of what your work provides for you.

One that knew how- and where- to find exactly what you’re looking for

In the service of others …

With the love of God, family and friends….

We never hear of people who would say that in their last days here on earth that they wish they spent more time in the office – never!

In the case of Hubert, his happy place was the football field! And he passed on with all his loved ones by his side.

People can easily say – “Sayang (to die at 56), ang bata pa naman.“ A short life? Short, by whose standards? No one can contest though that Hubert truly lived a full and well-lived life.

Affirmations for lives well-lived, that is the inspiration for our podcast which is a work in progress.

In the meantime, let’s continue living – happily and meaningfully.
