Ignoring pleas for justice

SEN. Robinhood Padilla would rather regard Apollo Quiboloy as a friend and an ally and ignore the pleas for justice of the latter’s reported victims of human trafficking, rape and prostitution. These are heinous offenses formally sworn by the victims themselves and recounted in three public hearings of the Senate Committee on women headed by Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

Forget about any upright or principled context in Padilla’s shallow defense of Quiboloy, clearly exhibiting his strong personal bias rather than his legislative obligation to be objective and independent in any probe of criminal activities.

Sen. JV Ejercito initially signed the objection letter regarding the contempt rap against Quiboloy but later withdrew his signature, explaining that there are “strong precedents for the Senate to investigate ongoing cases.” He also stressed that the testimonies of victims and witnesses have convinced him that an arrest order against Quiboloy to face the Senate committee of Sen. Hontiveros is called for.

No one from the Catholic and Christian Church leadership is protesting the arrest warrant against Quiboloy, the head of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, because they know too well that Congress should not discriminate on issues of criminal wrongdoing and immorality when conducting a probe on reported criminal activities.

Quiboloy’s denomination has been rejected by the mainstream Christian and Catholic communities as patently unbiblical due to Quiboloy’s claim as being the “Anointed Son of God,” which is a blatant and huge denial of the person and divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God.

The late industrialist-patriot Joe Concepcion was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease a few years before he passed away last week. One of his daughters, Marilen, related to this columnist that when she mentioned that Bongbong Marcos is now the President, JoeCon, as he was widely known, suddenly turned lucid and blurted out” No!!!”

It was an ordeal for the family to see their father forgetting their names and faces. We recall former US President Ronald Reagan who also suffered the same disease for nine years, which otherwise brought reconciliation in his family. Two of his children who were bitter with each other for many years eventually reconciled as they took care of their “lost” father in his twilight years.

In his new book, JoeCon’s Journey: Our Father and His Remarkable Legacy,” eldest son Joey Concepcion states that “every one of his friends and allies now says that without him, there would have been no Namfrel, without which there may have been no People Power.”

The senior citizens of Marikina City would like to thank Mayor Marcy Teodoro and his beloved wife, Congresswoman Ma-An Teodoro, for sponsoring a Valentine’s concert for them. More than 7,000 senior citizens filled up the city’s sports center for the rare event which featured the APO Hiking Society (minus the late Danny Javier) and hosted by Rey Valera.

It was a fun-filled event that renewed the spirits of the elderly, who relished witnessing Mayor Marcy doing a duet with his wife.
