‘[Y]our body is your instrument and you are just playing a character — Angeli Khang’
ANGELI Khang has just completed taping her first Vivamax TV series, “Wag Mong Agawin ang Akin,” and it’s set to start streaming on July 31.
“I am proud of my first series kasi it’s by Direk Mac Alejandre, who directed me in the very big hit ‘Silip sa Apoy’,” she says. “Mas tumindi ang passion ko for acting dahil sa kanya. I’m very thankful he chose me for this project kasi ang ganda ng role ko as Jasmine, a girl na iniwan ng ina niya nung bata siya, lumaking nagbebenta ng katawan to survive, and later, naging magkaagaw pa sila ng ina niya sa pag-ibig ng isang lalaki.”
How is it working with Jamilla Obispo as her long-lost mother? “I’ve worked with her sa before sa ‘Mahjong Nights’ kaya magkakilala na kami. Pero iba ang naging bonding namin dito kasi mag-ina kami. Nagtutulungan kami sa eksena. In our confrontation, sasampalin niya ko, but she was hesitant so ako pa ang nagsabi, sige, sampalin mo na ako nang malakas para maiyak talaga ako.”
She is always disrobing in all her projects. Does she ever get tired of taking her clothes off?
“Never naman naging madaling maghubad, kahit ilang beses mo nang ginawa. But it’s part of my job as an actress. So you just have to bear in mind na it’s part of your work, your body is your instrument and you are just playing a character para magawa mo nang tama ang trabaho mo.”
It’s been a year since Vivamax discovered her and introduced her in “Taya.” How is her life now as Vivamax’ top streaming actress? “I really feel so blessed dahil unang movie ko pa lang naapreciate na ako ng mga tao at dire-diretso na ang naging career, pati ang blessings that the Lord gives me. Kahit may bashers, I’m very happy.”

Diego Loyzaga has just finished two new films, “How to Love Mr. Heartache” with Sue Ramirez (which will be shown first on Amazon) and in “Babaeng Nawawala sa Sarili” with Ayanna Misola (opening July 15 on Vivamax.) And now, he’s shooting yet another new movie, “Maid in Malacanang,” which already has a July 20 playdate in cinemas. He is playing Bongbong Marcos and he’s excited as it is his dad, Cesar Montano, who plays the late Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.
“I’ve really been waiting for this moment and now, it’s happening, I finally get to work with my dad and it’s sobrang nakakakaba kasi we all know he has already won so many acting awards. Siempre I have to be on my toes and always give my best.”
Even his dad says he is also excited with the prospect of their working together. “Yes, we are both excited, kaming dalawa. I look forward to it kasi lagi kaming magkakasama. And this is not for a small platform like streaming kasi the movie will be shown in theaters.”
He also can’t believe that they’re doing a very big project together. “Imagine, he will play the late president and I will play our current president now. Kaya patong-patong ang pressure. It’s not just I’m working with my dad, it’s also the first time for me to play a real-life character, of a very important man, the president of our country at the moment no less.
So talagang it’s a very big deal! I feel the pressure but I welcome the challenge. If there is any time that I’m given the opportunity to prove myself as an actor, this would be it, so dapat lang na galingan ko talaga kasi kung hindi, nakakahiya. Kasama ko rin dito as my sisters sina Cristine Reyes as Imee and Ella Cruz as Irene.”

Allen Dizon has already won many acting awards here and abroad in films like “Dukot,” “Magkakabaung,” “Sekyu,” “Bomba,” “Area” and “Iadya Mo Kami”. This year, he again bagged a couple of best actor awards for his performance as a battered husband in the drama about domestic violence, “Latay.”
He now plays another meaty role in the dark crime drama, “Pamilya sa Dilim.” He actually plays a dual role, the father and the son, who are both police officers. When he gets such plum roles, is he already anticipating more awards in the future?
“Naku, hindi ko iniisip ‘yun, na mananalo na naman ako ng award for this movie,” he says.
“What I do is I always just give my best in every role that is assigned to me. Madalas naman kasi, the character I play, malayo sa akin sa tunay na buhay. Kamukha rito sa ‘Pamilya sa Dilim’, my role as the cop called Eddie Boy, ibang klase ang kasamaan niya.
Definitely hindi ako ganun. But I’m just thankful na nabibigyan ako ng ganitong klase ng demanding roles where people get to appreciate my performance.”
He wants to thank writer-director Jay Altarejos for getting him for the role.
“This is my first time to work with him and excited ako sa aming magiging collaboration.
This movie will also give me the chance to work with Direk Laurice Guillen as my co-star.
First time ko rin to work with her kaya it’s really an honor as not everyone is given the chance to work with her. I know I will learn a lot just by working with her.”
