‘I’m glad na natapos din namin at nakuha pang official entry ng ating bansa sa isang class A film festival — Dennis Trillo’

Dennis Trillo

DENNIS Trillo is all smiles these days because his new GMA Telebabad drama series, “Legal Wives,” is getting good feedback from viewers and its first week of telecast also rated very high.

“All of us involved in the show are so happy for the warm reception of the viewers and also the advertisers who are supporting us,” he said. “I was nervous noong una kasi first time on TV to focus on Muslim culture but Allah must have guided us and blessed us kaya naging maganda ang pagtanggap sa aming show.”

The show is also very fast paced. Dennis plays Ismael, the second son in the Makadatu family from the Maranaws of Lanao. He falls in love with Andrea Torres as Dianne, a Christian, but when his brother, Nasser (Alfred Vargas), dies in a clan war, Ismael has to inherit Nasser’s widow, Alice Dixson as Amirah. Of course, Dianne is against the idea of sharing Ismael with another woman.

“Maganda ang pagkakalatag ng story kaya nakaka-relate ang viewers sa iba’t ibang characters,” says Dennis. “And the drama will be more complicated sa pagpasok ni Bianca Umali as the third wife.”

Dennis is now also preparing for his trip to Italy as the movie he just finished with Erik Matti, “On the Job 2: The Missing 8,” is an entry in the main competition of the 78th Venice International Film Festival from September 1 to 11.

“It took us about two years to finish shooting the whole film,” he says. “I’m glad na natapos din namin at nakuha pang official entry ng ating bansa sa isang class A film festival.”

Also in the film’s cast are Christopher de Leon, Ricky Davao, Dante Rivero, John Arcilla, Rayver Cruz, Lotlot de Leon, Isabelle de Leon and Vandolph Quizon. Dennis plays a prisoner who is being released from jail every now and then to carry out assassinations for powerful people. “On the Job 2” will later be released as a 6-part original series worldwide on HBO Go Asia.

“I will join the entourage going to Venice,” he says. “Alam kong mahirap magbiyahe ngayon because of the pandemic but I’m ready to follow all the health protocols when I leave and when I return home to the country. Fully vaccinated na naman ako and I’m willing to undergo quarantine. It’s really a big honor to be part of this film.”

We’re sure he’d be missed by his inamorata, Jennylyn Mercado, when he leaves for Venice.

It’s good Jen will start her own taping for a new show opposite new Kapuso Xian Lim.

Dennis and Jen have been together for seven years and they’ve even put up their own business, a cat cafe called Litterbucks where they allow their about a dozen pet cats to entertain their clients. It was doing quite well, but the pandemic came and their business was affected. They’ve now decided to close it down. Wonder where the cats are now.

AJ Raval is tagged as the new “Pantasya ng Bayan” for baring her body without qualms. Of course, bashers quickly came to attack her to shame her. How does she react to them?

“Ay, wala po akong pakialam sa kanila,” she says at the press con of her latest skin flick, “Taya.” “When I did my first movie, ‘Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar,’ kasama ko si Mama Rosanna Roces and she advised me na sa pagpasok ko sa pagpapa-sexy, kailangang matatag ang loob ko at wala akong pakialam sa sasabihin ng ibang tao. Lagi kong tinatandaan ‘yun.”

She says she knows she’s not perfect but she doesn’t feel insecure about her looks.

“Hindi ko naman gagawin ito kung sa tingin ko, wala akong K (karapatan). Rather than be affected by bashers, I just focus on my work. Kung ang Viva nga nagtitiwala sa akin at sunod-sunod ang movies ko sa kanila, bakit ko naman papansinin ang bashers? Ang importante, masaya ako sa ginagawa at enjoy ako mag-artista.”

In “Taya,” she plays a sexy girl who is the prize in an online betting game. Her partner, Sean de Guzman, plays a student who gets addicted to gambling. Has she tried gambling herself?

“Hindi po ako, but ‘yung ex-boyfriend ko. Naging addict siya sa pagsusugal hanggang sa nagkabaon-baon siya sa utang at ako na ang nai-stress kasi ako ang nagbabayad sa mga utang niya. Kaya ang wish ko, sana mapanood niya itong ‘Taya’ para matutuhan niyang hindi dapat maging sobrang sugapa sa sugal.”

How did she handle her sex scenes with Sean? “We had a workshop and Direk Roman Perez explained to us what he’ll require from us. Naging open kami ni Sean sa isa’t isa at walang wall between us. And during the shoot, he keeps on asking me kung ok pa ba sa akin, kung kaya pa ba.”
