ALJUR ABRENICA
Aljur Abrenica landed lead roles when he transferred to ABS-CBN in 2017. He was featured in the action projects, including “Asintado” and “Sandugo,” which just ended in March.
“Sandugo” was a popular teleserye — assuring that Aljur and his co-stars, including EJ Falcon and Ariel Rivera, would get follow-up projects.
Then, ABS-CBN failed to get their franchise renewed. And now, Aljur has been accused of being insensitive when he was quoted as saying that ABS-CBN’s franchise problems are theirs alone.

Jojo Gabinete of Pep.ph, in his article titled “Aljur Abrenica on ABS-CBN shutdown: It’s beyond me… their fight is their fight,” quoted the actor as saying, “Hindi naman sa hindi ako vocal. Actually, pro-franchise po ako.
“Siyempre, that’s my mother network now. Marami rin silang naitulong sa akin.
“Pero it’s beyond me. Ibig kong sabihin, their fight is their fight.
“Matagal na ‘yung nangyayari. I don’t know the details…
“Ako, bilang isang artista, hindi ko alam. Ang alam ko lang, yung behind camera, so I’m really looking forward…
“How I see this scenario is the opportunity talaga to cleanse and the opportunity to get better as a network, and also as a sign of government.
“Every case naman na ganito, may opportunity to make everything better. Yun na lang ang tinitingnan ko.
“Para malaman niyo ang side ko, pro-franchise ako, pero it’s beyond me.
“May mas malalim pa kesa sa ipaglalaban ko sa franchise.”

His wife, Kylie Padilla, mother of their two sons, is standing by her man.
Kylie is the daughter of Robin Padilla with his first wife, Liezel Sicangco. Robin and Liezel have long separated and are now married to different people. Robin now has two daughters with Mariel Padilla.

Ethel Booba feels sad for her fellow comedy bar performers who are all out of job.
“Hindi lahat ay may ipon sa kanila na enough to sustain them for some time,” she said, “Mukhang matatagalan pa itong kasalukuyang pandemya natin,” she sighed.
Ethyel, for the last five months, have been busy with her first child, a girl. She is a breastfeeding mom.
Her baby daddy, Jessie Salazar, has a good job, enough to support their family.

“Bukod sa mabait siya,” said Ethel.
“My prayer na lang ay walang magkasakit sa aking pamilya. Pray ko rin na magkatrabaho nang muli ang aking mga fellow comedians and performers sa comedy bars. Mahirap ang walang trabaho, lalo ngayon.”

Veteran actress Perla Bautista and “Pamilya Ko” co-star Sylvia Sanchez are both about the sudden death of Mavic Oducayen, production manager of their series.
“Nakakabigla,” said Perla, “considering that before ABS-CBN’s franchise problem, she even met with me to ask if I can shoot out of town. Pero bago ako nakapag-decide, she had called to inform me na di na matutuloy and out-of-town taping dahil magastos ito.”
Sylvia recalled that the last time she saw Mavic was after she and husband Art Atayde recovered from Covid-19.
“Gusto lang daw niyang mangumusta, that’s it,” said Sylvia. “Since at that time uso na ‘yung physical distancing, we chose not to even hold hands.
“Had I known that was our last time na magkikita,” she continued, controlling her emoitons, “I would have embraced her tightly.”
Mavic reportedly had a heart attack after learning that she would be one of the 11,000 employees and talents that will be losing their jobs in ABS-CBN.

It will still be a merry Christmas for the cast and crew if “Coming Home” will be given a slot in the December Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Senator Jinggoy Estrada, producer and lead star, said he intends to submit the film in consideration for the coming MMFF.
“Coming Home” is a family drama directed by Adolf Alix, Jr. and starring Jinggoy and Sylvia Sanchez. It was supposed to be shown as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival summer slate.
“Tapos na ang pelikula,” said Sen. Jinggoy. “Maganda siya. It is about family and reconciliation and redeption. It is my comeback after eleven years.”
“Coming Home” will introduce Jake Ejercito, Jinggoy’s half-brother. Jake is the son of Jinggoy’s dad, President Erap Estrada, with former actress Laarni Enriquez.
