Vietnam Aug trade deficit seen at $1.3B

HANOI- Vietnam estimated a trade deficit of $1.3 billion for August, while consumer prices rose 2.82 percent from a year earlier, government data showed on Sunday.

Exports in August likely fell 5.4 percent from a year earlier to $26.2 billion, while imports likely increased 21.2 percent to $27.5 billion, the General Statistics Office said.

For the first eight months of this year, exports likely increased 21.2 percent to $212.6 billion, and imports rose 33.8 percent to $216.3 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $3.7 billion, the office said.

Vietnam’s consumer prices in August rose 2.82 percent from a year earlier, and edged up by 0.25 percent from July, the GSO said. Average consumer prices in the first eight months of this year rose 1.79 percent from a year earlier.
