International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) said that it has tapped Sinarmas LDA Usaha Pelabuhan (SLUP) as its preferred towage and pilotage supplier for its Indonesia operation, East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT), in Lamongan Regency.
As part of the arrangement, SLUP will deploy two Azimuth Stern Drive Z-peller propulsion system harbor tugs with total engine power of 6,200 horsepower and provide Maritime Pilot Class 1 services to support EJMT and Lamongan Shorebase terminal pilotage operations.
“We are very pleased to begin our partnership with SLUP, which shares our commitment to meeting customers’ needs by using modern and efficient equipment and observing the highest safety standards,” said Patrick Chan, EJMT chief executive officer.
The new partnership commenced in October, supporting safe vessel and barge movements within Terminal Umum Tanjung Pakis – Pelabuhan Brondong.
David Lim, PT Eastern Logistics chief executive officer, said that the service of SLUP will greatly enhance” port emergency marine response capabilities in the facility.
“SLUP’s tugs are equipped with first-class fire-fighting capabilities, including dual monitors for water or foam,” said Lim.
EJMT is located in the 80-hectare Lamongan Shorebase complex operated by PT Eastern.
“We hope that in the future, the synergy and collaboration between SLUP as BUP, Lamongan Shorebase, and EJMT as Terminal Umum, will maximize the maritime sector’s role in driving regional economic growth,” meanwhile said Azis Muttaqien, SLUP president director.
EJMT is a joint venture between ICTSI and East Log Holdings, an Indonesian company specialising in offshore oil and gas supply bases.
It serves as an international gateway designed to support the economies of Lamongan, Tuban and central Java through the handling of containerized, break bulk and project cargo.
EJMT recently took delivery of two new Konecranes Gottwald post-Panamax ESP.8 mobile harbor cranes (MHC).
The new equipment will support EJMT in handling bulk, project and container cargo once the terminal commences operations in September.
Equipped with the latest diesel-electric hybrid system, the cranes combine their diesel engine and three-phase generator with a secondary power source based on electrostatic short-term energy storage media called ultracaps. The ultracaps provide short-term energy during peak power demand periods to reduce the equipment’s diesel consumption.
The hybrid MHCs are the latest additions to EJMT’s equipment fleet, which includes reach stackers, empty container handlers, container spreaders, tractors and trailers.
