The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it has completed the Pangasinan Port Cluster Development projects at Brgy. Capandanan and Brgy. Pangapisan, in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Arthur Tugade, Transportation secretary, led the on-site visit and inspection of the project.
The completed port development projects include the new and improved construction of rock causeway with stair landing in Capandanan and river landing in Pangapisan North which aim to connect both places for better mobility and connectivity for passengers and to help fisherfolks in the area.
This initiative of the DOTr seeks to improve the river landing ports in Pangasinan that will surely boost local tourism and the economy.
These maritime development projects were pursued to address the dilemma of fisherfolks in the area who do not have any docking area and venues for the loading and loading of agricultural products.
Also, without river landing facilities before, travel between Brgy. Capandanan and Brgy. Pangapisan via land trips were longer and inefficient, thereby resulting to lost economic opportunities.
DOTr said around 812 fisherfolks are benefiting from the projects, as they now have a decent and better docking areas for the hassle-free and smooth unloading and loading of their harvest.
Moreover, with the development of the river landings, travel time between the two barangays has been reduced to just 3-5 minutes, from the original 30 minutes via land trips.
Present during the inspection were key officials from the DOTr maritime sector, municipal government unit of Lingayen and representatives from the fishing community. — Myla Iglesias
