Aboitiz Construction Inc. yesterday said it has completed the design and construction of another berth for the biggest modern container terminal in Mindanao, the Davao International Container Terminal (DICT).

Berth no. 4 is 33 meters wide and 177 meters long, has a connecting bridge access and a mooring Dolphin.

This project is an extension of the company’s previous construction of berths 1-3 for DICT.

In total, the length of DICT berth now is 600 meters, capable enough to moor 3 units of Post Panamax vessels.

“Aboitiz Construction’s contribution to the improvement of DICT involves our expertise in Ports and Marine works and our commitment towards quality and safety in all our projects.

With the design and construction of Berths, DICT is now the biggest modern container terminal in Mindanao, and this improvement has further emboldened Aboitiz Construction to continue building structures for a better future,”  said Anton Mari Perdices, Aboitiz Construction director, president, and chairman.

Previously known as San Vicente Terminal which handled dock break bulk vessels that load agricultural products, DICT is now regarded as a modern container terminal in the country that handles larger vessels, loading products like construction equipment and rubber raw products.

The construction of berths has increased the turnaround time for loading of vessels.

This means more vessels can now dock at the terminal to bring more produce and agricultural products in and out of the region, potentially creating demand.

A total of 121 employees were hired for the said project and out of this number, around 72 percent were locally hired.

Aboitiz Construction is the construction arm of one of the biggest conglomerates in the Philippines, the Aboitiz Group.
