Two interchanges of the 45-kilometer Cavite-Laguna expressway (Calax) will be opened to motorists this week, with a full electronic payment system in place to help stem the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.
Mark Villar, Department of Public Works and Highways secretary, gave the go-signal to MPCALA Holdings Inc. to open the Calax interchanges on August 18, following the final inspection of the Laguna Boulevard and Laguna Technopark interchanges over the weekend.
With these interchanges operational, motorists can enjoy access to and from the Laguna Technopark and have an alternative route to and from Nuvali via Laguna and South boulevards, thus decongesting Santa Rosa-Tagaytay road and other local service roads in the area.
About 10,000 cars per day are currently served by the Laguna segment.
Bobby Bontia, MPCALA Holdings president, said the Laguna interchanges will operate using 100 percent radio frequency identification (RFID).
By November, the whole of Calax will be on RFID technology.
Meanwhile, DPWH is expected to complete the conceptual plan for the P16-billion proposal of NLEX Corp. to further extend the North Luzon expressway (NLEX) all the way to Anda Circle in Port Area, Manila.
The government will extend the supplementary toll operation agreement with NLEX Corp. to fast-track the implementation of the project, which is set to start construction before the end of the current administration.
