The Department of Transportation yesterday formally opened the upgraded Port of Talaga in Mabini, Batangas, one of the 14 completed social tourism and commercial projects in the province.
The development of the port started in September 2019 and was officially completed last April amid the pandemic.
The rehabilitation includes the construction of the Port Operations Building (POB) and back up area, as well as the installation of a lighting system.
DOTr secretary Arthur Tugade, along with Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) general manager Jay Santiago and Mabini Mayor Noel Luistro, led the inaugural ceremony of the port.
Tugade assured port users of a safe and secure sea travel to and from Mabini, Batangas.
With the rehabilitation of the Port of Talaga, travelers can now enjoy a more comfortable and convenient sea travel experience as well as improved port services.
PPA also said 30 local residents were given jobs during the construction phase of the port project. Additional employment is also expected to be generated with the opening of more business and tourism opportunities following the port’s start of operations.
This transport infrastructure development is seen as another integral component that shall spur economic growth not only in the province, but also in the entire region of Calabarzon.
It is also seen to improve the livelihood of the Batangueños, as more job opportunities will be opened once the port begins its operations. Also ongoing is the rehabilitation of Subukin Port in San Juan, Batangas.
