AG&P International Pte. Ltd. got the approval of the City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (CFARMC) last month for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal facility that will be operational this year at Ilijan in Batangas.

AG&P said CFARMC passed a binding resolution supporting the construction, commissioning and operationalizing of the LNG import terminal in recognition of the facility’s potential for community and livelihood development in Batangas and its neighboring municipals, in a special council meeting held at the Office of the City Veterinary and Agricultural Services.

The resolution also stated that the development and industrialization along the municipal waters will help in the economic growth of Batangas city as it is necessary to address the thinning supply of natural gas which is needed by power plants in the region.

“…We will work in collaboration with CFARMC towards our shared responsibilities for our fishing communities to enable diverse livelihood and income opportunities, while simultaneously bringing clean energy into the country and improving the quality of life for many thousands of Filipinos,” said Anupam Ahuja, AG&P Group senior vice president for strategic services, in a statement.

The government created Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Councils in all barangays, municipalities and cities adjoining municipal waters to institutionalize the major participation of the local fisherfolks and other resource users in the community-based planning and implementation of policies and programs for the management, conservation, development and protection of fisheries and aquatic resources of the municipal waters across the country.

AG&P’s upcoming LNG terminal is expected to provide fuel supply for San Miguel Corp.’s 1,200 megawatts Ilijan power plant.

As of last January, the Department of Energy said that apart from AG&P, another LNG terminal project being developed by FGEN LNG Corp. together with its partner, BW LNG is also set to be operational this year

Apart from the two, there are five other proponents for such facility including Samat LNG Corp., Luzon LNG Terminal Inc., Energy World Gas Operations Philippines, Inc., Shell Energy Philippines, Inc. and Vires Energy Corp.
