Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) and its strategic partner, DP World, have invested P120 million in rolling out the first electric internal transfer vehicles (eITVs) at the Philippines’ premier trade gateway, Manila South Harbor (MSH).

The investment includes purchasing 15 eITVs and installing a rapid-charging station network aimed at boosting long-term operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

In a statement on July 16, ATI chairman and DP World Asia Pacific CEO and managing director Glen Hilton said, “This is a significant leap not only for ATI and DP World but also for the Philippines, as we continue to work with our partners and local authorities to further power the country’s economic growth.”

ATI also stated that plans are underway to deploy more electric equipment—such as rubber-tired gantry cranes, side loaders, reach stackers, and forklifts—over the next few years.

The new fleet of eITVs will transport containers between vessels and the yard, enabling quicker turnarounds and improving overall terminal efficiency. In addition to enhancing landside operations, this move accelerates the port’s transition to clean-energy-powered logistics and marks a major step toward achieving a fully decarbonized fleet by 2030.

This initiative aligns with DP World’s global decarbonization roadmap, which targets a 42 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net-zero operations by 2050, according to ATI.

It also supports the Philippine government’s push to modernize the country’s key gateways through greener, smarter, and more efficient trade solutions, led by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago welcomed the development, emphasizing the importance of private-sector involvement in the industry’s green transition.

Santiago added that this initiative helps set the pace for greening the logistics sector, beginning with the country’s major international gateways.

Manufactured by Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., the new eITVs are equipped with high-capacity batteries, powerful electric drivetrains, and advanced control systems that deliver safe, efficient, and zero-emission cargo movement.

Before deployment, the electric fleet underwent a rigorous one-year technical and safety evaluation by ATI and DP World engineers to ensure optimum performance under local conditions. This assessment enabled seamless integration and immediate deployment of the new units into daily operations.

Earlier this year, ATI added two new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes. bringing its fleet of fully electric STS cranes to 11.

Currently, around 95 percent of MSH’s power requirements are met by renewable energy sources, with full coverage expected soon.
