Watsons, the leading health, wellness, and beauty retailer, is excited to announce the opening of its first greener store in San Pedro, Laguna. This new store reflects Watsons’ strong commitment to sustainability and sets a new benchmark for eco-friendly retail in the Philippines.
The Watsons Greener Store is a groundbreaking project that uses renewable energy, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient appliances. The store’s design and materials meet green building standards, earning certification from Pi Energy Inc., significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
The store is mainly powered by solar energy, reducing its environmental impact. Using solar panels, the store saves about 7.5 tons of CO2 emissions each year, which is similar to the CO2 absorbed by 377 trees annually.
The store uses eco-friendly materials for marketing, such as Solidus instead of PVC-containing Sintra boards. All marketing materials are made from recycled paper and boards with FSC certification. Wooden display racks and fixtures further highlight the store’s commitment to sustainability.
The store features LED lights, which are toxic-free, fully recyclable, and reduce energy use by up to one-third. Inverter air conditioners and refrigerators also consume 40 percent less energy than standard units.
Watsons offers a range of sustainable products promoting clean beauty, better ingredients, refill packs, and better packaging from responsibly sourced materials.
The store introduces its first refill station outside Metro Manila, allowing customers to refill their Naturals by Watsons bottles with body wash and shampoo. Refillable bottles with screw caps are also sold, saving customers up to 40 percent compared to buying new bottles.
Customers are encouraged to bring reusable shopping bags, and the store actively promotes waste reduction, segregation, and recycling.
