Senatorial candidate Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson joined the vibrant Sumbingtik Festival in Cainta, Rizal, showcasing his commitment to cultural heritage and community engagement. The festival, celebrated last week, highlights Cainta’s iconic delicacies—suman, bibingka, and latik—bringing together locals and visitors to enjoy the town’s rich culinary traditions.

Held annually in Barangay Sto. Niño, the festival featured a spectacular float parade led by Mayor Elenita “Elen” Nieto and Municipal Administrator Johnielle Keith “Kit” Nieto. Participants donned traditional Muslim attire, emphasizing Cainta’s dedication to preserving its cultural roots while embracing modernity.

Singson made a grand entrance in a striking Muslim costume, captivating the crowd. His presence symbolized not only a respect for tradition but also a platform to share his vision for uplifting vulnerable sectors of society. He outlined plans to enhance the transport sector by offering zero-interest loans to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers, enabling their transition to eco-friendly options like e-trikes and e-jeepneys.

Additionally, Singson introduced the “Chavit 500” project—a universal basic income proposal aimed at providing unemployed adults with ₱500 monthly. He also announced VBank, an initiative designed to offer free bank accounts to Filipinos historically excluded from the financial system.

Singson’s dedication to public service is evident from his previous tenure as an official in Ilocos Sur, where he transformed the province from one of the poorest in the Philippines to its current status as the fifth richest. His legacy includes significant economic growth and infrastructure development.

In light of ongoing political tensions between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte, Singson emphasized unity among political leaders. He called for collaboration to address pressing national issues and foster economic growth.
