Shell scores triple wins
Shell Companies in the Philippines (SCiP) took home three awards in the 2021 Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES).
The awarding of SCiP companies, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (Pilipinas Shell), and Shell Philippines Exploration B.V (SPEX) highlights the achievements made by Shell’s overall operations in the Philippines in innovative practices and positive community impact.
The ‘Asia’s Most Inspiring Executives’ award was presented to Don Paulino, Managing Director and Vice President Upstream Philippines, for maintaining and continually striving to reach his vision of a bright, progressive Philippines through his inspiring leadership, safety-first mindset and people empowerment.
The ‘Top Community Centric Companies in Asia’ category award was given to SPEX for its continued dedication to nation-building, care for the environment, enriching and empowering the lives of communities, and creating a sustainable future for the Philippines. This commitment is seen in Shell’s partnership with three social arms and their very relevant programs in host communities of Palawan, Oriental Mindoro and Batangas.
The ‘Green Innovation Award’ was presented to Pilipinas Shell as the first company in the Philippines’ gas-and-energy sector to build a commercial building in a service station using eco-bricks — the mobility station in Plaridel, Bulacan used 26,512 eco-bricks manufactured by Shell partner Green Antz Builders.

Stamps celebrate teachers
The Philippine Post Office released new stamps to celebrate the National Teachers’ Month from September 05 to October 05, 2021.
Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio said that the special teachers stamp depict the slogan “iTeach for a Better Future “My Teacher, My FrontlineHero,”illustrating two students described as using the online classroom activities ensuring that learning continues despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic.
With the theme “Gurong Pilipino: Katuwang sa Hamon, Kasama sa Pagbangon”, the Teachers’ Stamp recognizes the invaluable dedication of our teachers to their profession making the students safe during this health crisis.
In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and other organizations, the Postal Service upholds the initiative of giving back due recognition for teachers as humble heroes shaping the minds of the nation.
The stamps and official first Day covers of “2021 National Teachers’ Month” are now available at the Manila Central Post Office “Stamp shop” in Liwasang Bonifacio. The layout of the stamps was done by in-house graphic artist Eunice Beatrix Uy Dabu.

Most outstanding company
Megawide Construction Corp. was named as one of Asia’s Most Outstanding Companies in Philippine construction and engineering sector in Asiamoney’s recently concluded Outstanding Companies Poll for 2021.
Over 1,071 fund managers, analysts, bankers and ratings agencies participated in the survey, which ran from May 24 to July 16.The results recognize 191 companies as being the most outstanding for their sectors and in their market.
Asiamoney designed the poll to “acknowledge listed companies that have excelled in areas such as financial performance, management team excellence, investor relation activities and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.”

Malayan’s WeWomen Program wins award
Through Gender Sensitivity Trainings (GST) for Malayan Insurance Co. Inc., insurance agents and employees became the Best Insurance Education & Training in the Philippines for year 2021, as awarded by the Global Banking & Finance Review of UK.
The GST helped attendees reframe stereotyped generalizations toward women. The conduct of GST was part of Malayan Insurance’s We Women Program, a specialized program developed by Malayan Insurance in partnership with the International Finance Corp. (IFC) for increased women’s access to risk mitigation and financial protection solutions in the Philippines.
Attended by Malayan Insurance officers, employees, and agents, the workshops series tackled sensitive topics such as identifying the needs and roles of women, overcoming gender and unconscious biases, supporting women’s issues, and refining communications and language.
GST paved the way for Malayan’s We Women Program to introduce Stela (Simply The Easiest Live Assistant) Solutions, a suite of financial protection plans that secure each Filipina, her family, assets, and overall well-being.

Donate a Book drive
The SM Store celebrated World Literacy month in September this year through an online Donate A Book drive.
This initiative is made possible with the support of the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations of the Philippines, Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges and Universities and Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.
Last September 17, the online Donate A Book drive gathered Grade 3 pupils from 23 private elementary schools across the country. Ms. Anya Santos-Uy, storyteller and author of ABKD ng Kalikasan, treated the kids to a fun storytelling session about the environment. She also taught the kids the importance of taking care of their books to share them with other kids. The online Donate A Book drive gathered 3000 books from the participating students and private schools.
To date, more than 20 elementary private schools and eight colleges and universities have committed to donating books through The SM Store’s Donate A Book Program. The program started in 2015 and has collected over 800,000 reading and learning materials for the benefit of public schools and youth organizations around the country.
