Securities and Exchange Commissioner Attorney Rogelio Quevedo is transforming how Filipinos view bureaucracy and financial regulation. At a recent press conference in Quezon City, the longtime University of the Philippines College of Law professor and mentor to top senators outlined his vision for cybersecurity, digitization, and AI integration to help micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises thrive.

Drawing from decades of experience with leading telecommunications providers—including managing cybersecurity during the cellphone cloning crisis of the 90s—Commissioner Quevedo understands how breaches cause service stoppages, identity theft, and loss of public trust. As SEC commissioner, he aims to fortify cybersecurity through total digitization and strategic AI implementation.

Commissioner Quevedo plans to reduce exhausting incorporation requirements to further the Ease of Doing Business Act’s objectives. Using AI to create secure databases and automate repetitive tasks, the SEC will eliminate redundant document submissions across government agencies, making the process user-friendly, accessible, and corruption-free.

Having worked extensively in the private sector, Quevedo knows Filipino entrepreneurs’ challenges firsthand. He emphasizes being a hands-on regulator, stating, “You have to make sure that your innovation is what your client needs,” based on direct client feedback.

Addressing AI concerns, Commissioner Quevedo remains optimistic: “AI will never rule our future, but the future will belong to those who embrace AI as a tool to achieve success.

The SEC will also promote financial literacy across all demographics, including high schoolers. “With innovation rooted in practicality, it will always have to be service with compassion,” Commissioner Quevedo reminds his agency.

Under his leadership, the SEC Philippines transforms into a high-tech government agency powered by digitization while maintaining “a living, beating heart for the success of every Filipino.”
