RSA hails fallen Bulacan rescuers

Ramon S. Ang, San Miguel Corp. (SMC) president and chief executive officer  on Monday paid tribute to five rescue personnel who died during the height of Super Typhoon Karding in Bulacan.

Ang met and condoled with the families of Troy Agustin, George Agustin, Marby Bartolome, Jerson Resurreccion, and Narciso Calayag Jr., members of Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) who died while undertaking rescue operations in San Miguel, Bulacan last September 25.

Ang also personally handed checks worth P2 million each for a total of P10 million and offered business start-up packages to the family representatives of the fallen rescuers during the meeting attended by Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando and Bulacan 4th District Rep. Lorna Silverio at the SMC headquarters.

SBS PHat the 8th DPWH Research Symposium

SBS Philippines Corp and its partner Zydex participated in the 8th DPWH Research Symposium with the theme “Smart Construction” held on October 14 at the University of the Philippines (UP) Ang Bahay ng Alumni in Diliman, Quezon City.

The attendees of the symposium included engineers, researchers, members of the academe, government organizations, and corporations around the country. The DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards organized the event headed by Director Reynaldo P. Faustino.

SBS Philippines Corporation, one of the leading chemical trader-distributors in the country was one of the ten presenters who shared their research data regarding the organosilane nanotechnology. Through a virtual presentation, Engineer Vishal Saluja, the Vice president of Zydex Industries, explained the importance of using innovative products such as TerraSil and ZycoBond to build stabilized, water resistant and flexible soil bases.

The DPWH Research Symposium is an excellent venue for companies such as SBS Philippines Corporation to introduce innovative products that will aid in the infrastructure improvement sector and the field of research and development, as well as an opportunity for potential research-technology collaborations.

Women in medicine

Operation Smile launched its new global initiative Women in Medicine program in the Asia region with an all-female international surgical and educational mission in Cebu City, from October 10 to 15  aimed at putting the spotlight on the critical role women play in the global healthcare system, and to encourage them to take on leadership roles in their professions.

Women in Medicine seeks to educate women in resource-poor countries on advanced medical practices, empower them to become leaders in global medicine, expand opportunities for female health care workers in underserved communities, and  elevate the quality of cleft care, Magee said.

In partnership with its in-country foundation, Operation Smile Philippines, longtime NGO ally in Cebu, the MSY Charitable Foundation, and the Cebu City Government, Operation Smile assembled a team of 60 volunteer cleft care professionals from 12 countries.

UnionBank, Lazada  launch Quick Gives

Union Bank of the Philippines  and Lazada Philippines recently signed a memorandum of agreement  for Quick Gives, to offer more flexibility in payment methods for UnionBank payroll customers in the Lazada app.

The Quick Gives Program will provide loans to pre-selected UnionBank payroll accounts, currently accessible through a microsite. These quick loans will be approved in real-time and disbursed to the borrower’s Lazada Wallet within two days or less.

UnionBank payroll customers can also get a loan from P1,000 to P50,000 in flexible payment terms between one and 12 months. There is only a minimum 1.25 percent interest rate per month.

Quick Gives will be launched this month.

Training-to-employment

Mars Wrigley is spearheading a training-to-employment program to help underprivileged sectors.

The Experiential Learning Program is a two-week course where students learn basics such as communication skills and Microsoft Office and Teams, including exposure to operational proficiency in different areas at the Mars Wrigley factory.

Students who successfully complete the training are endorsed to partner companies for potential employment. They may also be deployed to  Mars Wrigley’s Antipolo factory, where some of its most iconic brands such as Doublemint, COOL AIR and Juicy Fruit, are made.

RCBC introduces MoneyBela

RCBC highlights its effort to champion empathy-driven banking innovations, with the introduction of the RCBC MoneyBela Barangayan Banking. Another Philippines’ first that hybridizes physical-digital or phygital banking services, MoneyBela fuses the best features of digital banking and human connection.

Using sustainable e-trikes, RCBC will reach rural barangays to bring banking services  closer to the people.

Behind this project is Lito Villanueva, RCBC executive vice president and chief innovations and inclusion officer, who was also instrumental in steering RCBC’s digital transformation and  led the team that pioneered the country’s first financial inclusion mobile app, RCBC DiskarTech.

Manulife appointment

HORA

Manulife  announced the appointment of Rahul Hora as president and  chief executive officer of Manulife Philippines, effective  October 3.

In this role, Hora will be a member of Manulife’s Global Leadership Team, reporting directly to Sachin Shah, general manager foremerging markets.

Hora is an award-winning insurance industry veteran, with extensive experience in the Philippines and across Asia.

Hora previously served as senior vice president of one of India’s most recognized insurance companies, and then joined AXA, where he held distribution roles at market and regional levels, and most recently led their life and non-life insurance operations in the Philippines.

Move It provides free rides

Motorcycle ride-hailing firm Move It has teamed up with a partylist group for a pilot project that provides one month of free rides to barangay health workers (BHW) in Metro Manila.

The project, dubbed “Libreng Sakay for Barangay Health Workers,” is a partnership between Move It and the office of BHW Partylist Rep. Angelica Natasha Co.

The pilot project runs  until November 15, and free rides can be availed from Monday to Friday during the period.

Under the project, BHWs in Metro Manila will be given free rides worth up to P150 a day.There will be 300 available daily redemptions of the free rides for BHWs on a first-come, first-served basis.

A BHW is entitled to a maximum of two rides per day during the promo period.

Move It will provide at least one promo code to the BHW Partylist, which will then disseminate the code to the BHWs.
