Jomar Sapo-an, a humble tailor from Rizal, claimed the ₱5 million grand prize at the GameZone Tablegame Champions Cup (GTCC): September Arena, the largest tongits prize pool competition in the country with ₱10 million in total prizes.
The two-day tournament held September 20-21 at the FilInvest Tent in Muntinlupa brought together 36 top players nationwide. Sapo-an, originally from Bohol, competed as a reserve player alongside fellow finalist Erlinda—both attending simply for their love of the game.
After Erlinda won the first round leading by 10,600 points, Sapo-an rallied with exceptional play to win the championship by 500 points, earning the golden trophy presented by Gamemaster Integrated Inc. President Rafael Jasper Vicencio.
“Inaalay ko po ang panalong ito sa pamilya ko po, lalong lalo na sa asawa ko, na number one fan ko, supportive sa akin yun, sya ang nag-push sakin na pumunta rito, nag pray lang din po ako kay God, na kung para sa akin, para sa akin,” said Sapo-an, still in shock after his first-ever tongits tournament.
The champion plans to use his winnings to buy land and a house for his wife and two children. “Maraming maraming salamat sa lahat ng bumubuo ng GameZone, kung di po dahil sa kanila, wala po ako rito,” he added.
GameZone enhanced the experience by providing each of the 36 participants and their companion with an all-expense-paid five-day hotel stay, including food and accommodations. The tournament also allocated ₱1 million to the Kalusugan Plus initiative through BingoPlus Foundation, as voted by the community.
