Converge donation

Converge marked the start of the year with a visit and donation activity to Aetahanan, a halfway house for Aeta students living and studying in Pampanga.

The whole day activity was done in partnership with Project Angel, a Pampanga-based community of good samaritans, who aided Converge in holding the event and extending help to the students.

The Aetas sheltered by Aetahanan live in various communities in Pampanga, such as in Brgy. Sapang Bato, Brgy. Sapang Uwak, Barangay Camias, and Villa Maria. These barangays are mostly ancestral lands and are at least three hours away by foot from the town where their school is.

Converge donated 45 units of tablets, eight  units of computers, and food items. The donation aims to help the students cope with blended learning when classes are held online and in-campus.

Community resilience project

The Bangsamoro Government, European Union in the Philippines and UNICEF  launched Building Community Resilience and Delivery of Essential Services for Post Conflict Recovery in Lanao del Sur/Marawi project to strengthen community resilience, increase coverage of essential services, and promote child-friendly family and community behaviors in 44 municipalities in the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon.

Over 4 million euros or P245 million have been set for the action which will fund health, education, child protection and disaster risk reduction programs targeting 680,000 children, 200,000 parents and 120,000 internally displaced persons affected by the Marawi conflict. The project outcomes include maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health, nutrition, water, and sanitation services; early childhood education and basic education services; child protection/social welfare systems; and child-friendly provincial and municipal planning and investment for children’s rights and reduced disaster risks.

Cement firm bags standard certification

Century Peak Holdings Corp. (CPM) said its construction-related business, Century Peak Cement Manufacturing Corp., (CPCMC) was granted the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI)  quality standard certification for its Pro (blended hydraulic) and Prime (Portland) cement products.

Certification of quality means that Century Peak Cement’s variants meet or exceed the requirements set by the Bureau of Philippine Standards and is the final hurdle before the brand enters the market this month.

The industry’s newest player will be primarily engaged in the business of manufacturing, production and merchandising of cement, cement products and by-products, including their derivatives and all kinds of minerals and building materials.

Located in Pinamungajan, Cebu, the manufacturing plant sits some two kilometers from the initial quarry site of another Century Peak subsidiary, Century Peak Mineral Development Corp., which is the source of the limestone raw material used for producing cement. It is the first industry in the municipality and has a capacity of 1 million tons of cement annually, providing jobs to almost 200 people with close to a thousand indirect beneficiaries.

Outreach program in Tondo
