Indigenous Peoples (IP) groups in Brooke’s Point, Palawan have officially received over PHP 53
million in royalty shares from Ipilan Nickel Corporation (INC) during a ceremonial turnover on
Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The amount forms part of the total PHP 73.875 million royalty
allocation covering the period of September 2022, when the company began operations, up to
September 2024.
Designed to support various developmental projects, the funds fall under the Community
Royalty Development Plan (CRDP) aimed at fostering sustainable progress within the region.
Julhadi Carim Titte, president of the Indigenous Peoples Development Organization (IPDO)
Barong-Barong, Ipilan, Calasaguen, Aribungos, Mambalot, and Maasin (BICAMM) Inc., formally
received the check during the event, which was witnessed by IP leaders from the six barangays,
representatives from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Palawan, the
Municipal Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), barangay officials, members
of the Sangguniang Bayan, and the office of Brooke’s Point mayor Jun Benedito, as well as
various business partners and stakeholders.
The royalty share will fund development programs that will improve the economic conditions of
the IP community members in Brooke’s Point, representing the benefits of responsible mining.
INC also sees this as a crucial step in strengthening communities through inclusive growth and
fair distribution of benefits from the responsible use of our natural resources.
