Makati Mayor Abby Binay said on Monday over 14,000 jobseekers – both city residents and non-residents – were hired in 2024 through the city’s Job Referral and Placement Program, managed by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
From January to December 2024, 14,710 of the 15,967 jobseekers referred to accredited private companies found employment, achieving an impressive hiring rate of 92%. This figure far exceeds the program’s annual target of at least 60%.
“The program’s success underscores Makati City’s commitment to addressing unemployment and supporting both residents and non-residents in finding gainful employment,” Binay stated.
The mayor highlighted the need for ongoing efforts to enhance job opportunities through strategic partnerships with the business community. “Through innovative programs and partnerships, we aim to provide more job opportunities. The success of our job placement program highlights the positive and lasting impact of partnerships between the city government and the private sector,” she added.
In 2024, Makati PESO organized two major job fairs – the Mega Job Fair and In-House Job Fair – to assist unemployed, and displaced individuals in their job search. The Mega Job Fairs were held at Ayala Malls Circuit Makati in June and October, connecting hundreds of qualified applicants directly with employers. During these events, 915 applicants registered, with 550 deemed competent and 226 hired on the spot.
The PESO Job Referral and Placement Program plays a crucial role in Makati’s strategy to boost employment and economic resilience. By linking job seekers with employers and hosting large-scale job fairs, the city continues to empower its workforce and contribute to local economic growth.
