BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY, TAGUIG — Listed natural resource development company Nickel Asia Corp. (NAC) recently convened its suppliers and business partners to align its supply chain network with the company’s sustainability goals and commitments. This initiative supports NAC’s efforts to account for Scope 3 emissions and accelerates the company’s drive toward its ESG objectives through a resilient and sustainable supply chain.
Scope 3 emissions—those not directly owned or controlled by an organization—include emissions from value chain activities such as supply chain operations and disposal. In 2023, NAC launched its Scope 3 Emissions Inventory to progress toward its 2025 target of completing 100% of greenhouse gas accounting. The survey achieved a 100% response rate through cooperation from management and all Business Units.
Beyond environmental impact, NAC aims to align its supply chain partners’ policies with its standards on Occupational Safety and Health, Human Rights, Anti-Bribery, and its Supplier Code of Conduct.
“It is incumbent upon every corporate citizen to digest the fragility of the current world situation, what with climate change and its nuances. So it has to be ‘all-hands-on-deck’ with data-driven and science-based strategies, supported by a committed, resilient, supply chain to achieve a responsible and stable sourcing ecosystem pivotal to winning our sustainability dreams,” said Jose Bayani Baylon, NAC Senior Vice President for Sustainability, Risk Management, Corporate Affairs, and Communications and the company’s chief sustainability officer.
Since formalizing ESG integration into its business operations, NAC has achieved significant milestones. Last year, NAC committed to Net Zero carbon by 2050 and submitted its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). NAC is the first Philippines-based company with mining assets to complete a comprehensive inventory of carbon emissions from land use change and fully transition to technology-driven data-gathering processes.
Going forward, NAC plans to integrate sustainability requirements into supplier accreditation, contractual obligations, and contract renewals.
