MVP group assists Bulusan communities

The MVP Group’s PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), AlagangKapatid Foundation Inc. (AKFI), and One Meralco Foundation (OMF) through TulongKapatid have mobilized relief efforts in response to the Mt. Bulusan eruption.

All have extended aid and provided necessities such as food packs, water, medicine, and communication assistance to affected communities in Sorsogon.

“MVP Group Foundations are now active in Bulusan area with relief work and soup kitchens. Led by PLDT-Smart and One Meralco. Our sympathy and prayers go with the victims,” said PLDT Chairman Pangilinan, in a June 13 tweet.

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc.  immediately set up Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging.  The PLDT group also provided food packs and masks while PSF provided relief packs, masks and multivitamins.

AKFI and PSF also ran their soup kitchen and distributed while One Meralco Foundation donated  bread and canned goods.

Angeles City council urges GCG to address CDC’s pay scale row

The Angeles City Council recently passed a resolution urging the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation (GCG) and Clark Development Corporation (CDC) to immediately address the “adverse” impact and negative effect of the Compensation and Position Classification System (CPCS) to the employees of CDC.

The resolution, which was filed before the Angeles City Council, further states that “these obtaining unfortunate events can also bring an unfavorable investment climate in Clark where the far-reaching impact is a disturbed business environment that could also affect investors, locators and their employees.”

Ihaw-Sarap Month

Health literacy

The Department of Health (DOH), together with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Club of the Philippines (IBD Philippines), Crohn’s & Colitis Philippines, and Johnson & Johnson (Philippines) Inc.  launched a health literacy campaign to raise awareness and encourage action around inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) to help improve the quality of patients’ lives.

The partnership kicked off with a lay forum entitled Misbehaving bowels: Educational forum in celebration of World IBD Day moderated by Manila Doctors Hospital SGDE’s Chief of Section, Dr. Marie Cloa.

“While we continue our research to progress science and develop innovative treatments for IBD, we also want to stress the importance of encouraging early diagnosis and proper treatment. We are working closely with relevant stakeholders to build a responsive healthcare system that will address the needs of patients, most especially since there are numerous Filipinos who are suffering from IBD yet remain untreated,” said the head of the Medical Affairs of J&J Philippines, Dr. Erwin Benedicto.

St. Joseph’s College taps Globe Business

Mapúa Malayan scholarships

Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC), a new college launched by Mapúa University and Malayan Colleges Laguna, A Mapúa School, has introduced the Continuing Education Scholarship Program.

This program is open to qualified employees of MMDC’s industry partners, whereby 9 successful applicants are awarded a 100 percent scholarship on tuition fees for bacheloregrees in Information Technology or Business Administration. The scholarship is valid for 45 units to be completed in two years.

The MMDC Continuing Education Scholarship is open to working adults who are high school graduates, second degree takers, and those who are looking to continue their college education.

Applicants must be employees of MMMC’s industry partners and reside near the MMDC Learning Hubs, located at Ayala Malls Ayala Malls Cloverleaf (Quezon City) and Ayala Malls Capitol Central (Bacolod City).

The 14th edition of Union Bank of the Philippines’ virtual roundtable series E-TalkTales last June 28 tackled how open banking and open finance are slowly taking over the financial sector.

UnionBank’s Fintech Business Group head Erika Dizon, in her presentation, explained open banking promotes data sharing on banking services, while open finance promotes data and capability sharing across the financial sector. They share the same goal, to create an open ecosystem which provides numerous benefits, including seamless data access and sharing, more opportunities for cooperation and collaboration, and most importantly, unprecedented customer-centricity.

Dizon said the open finance movement can positively impact different sectors of society. For service providers, it can inspire innovation and create new revenue streams. For businesses, it can promote increased transparency and operational efficiency. For customers, it can help enable better personalization, and in turn more meaningful experiences

Mentorship program

Last May, 24 graduating students at the Gold Eagle College Scholarship Program of the Insular Foundation were given the opportunity to be mentored by eight of its alumni scholars from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

The student-mentees came from the Foundation’s partner-schools, which include Aurora State College of Technology, Benguet State University, Bohol Island State University, Central Mindanao University, Davao Oriental State University, and UP Diliman.

The alumni scholar mentors stressed the importance of developing practical skills that are essential in any professional environment. These include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills in the workplace.

The two-day Gold Eagle Mentorship Program is part of Insular Foundation’s holistic educational intervention for its scholars and other students, with the mission of creating an enabling environment for human development in the communities they serve.

Accessible financial services

GCash is ramping up its lineup of financial services to help individuals and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) find accessible financial services.

GCash said it will launch this quarter an insurance service for businesses.

Neil Trinidad, GCash head of new business, said in a virtual briefing the company will be working with different insurance providers, onboarding them on the service so that businesses can avail accident and life insurance for their employees.
