The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has relaunched a recruitment and capability-building program for aspiring female linecrew members as part of the company’s commitment to drive and heighten gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
The Meralco Linecrew Training Program (MLTP) aims to develop a pool of skilled female line workers, who are envisioned to eventually become part of the Meralco workforce.
A total of 15 individuals will be part of the newest batch of trainees under the MLTP. For a period of five months beginning May, they will undergo a series of lectures and rigorous physical training and endurance conditioning programs that will build and hone their skills to properly use manually operated tools and safely climb Meralco utility poles. They will subsequently be assessed for hiring and deployment.
The power distributor currently has nine female line workers who help deliver reliable electricity service to Meralco customers.
Isuzu PH breaks ground in Dasmarinas City
Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) held the formal groundbreaking ceremony for its dealership in Dasmarinas City, Cavite.
Isuzu Dasmarinas will be operated by Isuzu Automotive Dealership, Inc (IADI), an authorized dealer of Isuzu vehicles and wholly owned by Ayala Automotive Holdings Corp.. IADI also operates two Isuzu dealerships in Cavite , Isuzu Bacoor, and Isuzu Imus. The operations of the latter will be transferred to Isuzu Dasmarinas as soon as it becomes fully operational in the fourth quarter.
Isuzu Dasmarinas will be equipped with a showroom that can accommodate three units display including truck, a customer lounge, service reception, parts, and accessories area; and the service workshop will have 6 LCV service bays, 1 CV service bay.
PLDT teams up with US-based Billpay Connect to serve OFWs
Over 4.2 million Filipinos residing in the United States can now conveniently pay for their families’ utility bills in the Philippines through the partnership of PLDT Global Corporation (PGC), the international arm of the Philippines’ largest integrated network company, PLDT Inc., and online payment platform Billpay Connect (BPC).
Under this partnership, overseas Filipino customers can directly pay for Philippine bills, send electronic gifts, purchase prepaid load or top up their Free Bee accounts, from the convenience of their own homes through the BPC portal or mobile app.
Headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, BPC is a solution “created by an OFW for the OFW” which allows them to “focus on what really matters” without having to worry about managing their due dates back home. BPC’s technology also enables customers to schedule, monitor, and pay their bills on a regular or one-time basis through their credit cards, debit cards, or via electronic checks.
“We have a very secure, highly reliable, and the most affordable online bills payment service. Our partnership with PLDT Global allows us to reach more customers. They simply need to access the portal, choose the merchant billers that they want to pay, indicate the fund they want to utilize, and pay in real time. This initiative for overseas Filipinos is anchored on PLDT’s mission and purpose to connect and empower Filipinos everywhere digitally.
AWS launches interactive video feature
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its Amazon Interactive Video Service (IVS) Points of Presence (PoPs) in Indonesia and the Philippines. The new service is aimed at helping customers meet the demand for rich and engaging interactive live video content streaming.
Amazon IVS will provide a lower latency experience for viewers, making video content more seamless and engaging.
Built on the same live streaming technology that powers Twitch, Amazon IVS is a fully managed service that makes it easy to set up live, interactive video streams for a web or mobile application in just a few minutes.
By receiving and delivering video streams over local edge infrastructure that is optimized for live video ingest, processing, and delivery, the new Amazon IVS PoPs in Jakarta and Manila will enable end users to benefit from low latency — making video content seamless and more engaging for viewers.
With the Amazon IVS Software Development Kit (SDK) and APIs, customers can also build interactive features into their live streams such as virtual chat spaces, votes and polls, moderated question and answer sessions, and synchronized promotional elements without impacting live video download times.

Eastern Communications recently unveiled its “Experience Center,” a venue that showcases and offers their customers a first-hand experience of their various connectivity and ICT solutions designed to meet their ever-changing needs.

Home Credit bags Gold Stevie
Home Credit Philippines was named Gold Stevie awardee in the ninth annual Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards for the Innovative Use of Technology in Human Resources category.
The award recognizes technology-driven human resource initiatives of Home Credit Philippines as “a way to connect, engage and transform people as they use technology to adapt to the future of human resource in the Philippines.”
Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Home Credit Philippines has been focusing on creating initiatives driven by technology to connect and engage with its employees all over the country and help streamline the company’s overall processes.
As a global company with more than 13,000 employees in the country alone, Home Credit Philippines in early 2021 launched its HR Gateway and Intranet to help HR Management connect and engage with its employees on a daily basis. It also developed an E-recruitment portal that serves as its primary gateway for all candidate applications. Entrepreneur Of The Year
The SGV Foundation announced the launch of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2022 program.
This is the 18th year of the program, which aims to recognize the inspiring men and women whose remarkable contributions are pivotal in shaping the Philippine entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The program recognizes the strength, dynamism and resilience of Filipino entrepreneurs who take the lead in founding and operating sustainable, successful enterprises. It will run from the start of the nomination period this April until the awarding of winners in November 2022.
The search is open to all Filipino entrepreneurs. To be eligible, a nominee has to be a Filipino business owner or founder who is primarily responsible for the growth of his or her company. Nominations to the award will now be accepted until July 31, 2022.
There will be five award categories for this year: Master Entrepreneur, Small Business Entrepreneur, Young Entrepreneur, Woman Entrepreneur, and Technology Entrepreneur.
Financial literacy program
Allianz PNB Life continues to educate Filipinos on finance and money management through its financial literacy program, ‘Allianz Kaagapay’. The first part of the Pangasinan leg was held both on-ground in Alaminos and online via a virtual meeting on April 11.
The goal of Allianz Kaagapay Financial Wellness Program is to encourage financial wellness and inclusion among Filipinos. Participants are also slated to receive free life insurance for one year up to P25,000.
Attendees with essential financial know-how to get them started on the road to financial literacy. He gave helpful tips on how to manage money efficiently, spend wisely, and set budgets, and also encouraged the attendees to invest in themselves and their relationships in order to foster long-term financial health.
