Megawide Foundation invests in education for a stronger future

Megawide Corporate Foundation, Inc. (MCFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Megawide Construction Corporation, welcomed its new batch of college scholars for the 2024–2025 academic year during a jacket-handing ceremony on November 6 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Suites in Quezon City.

This inaugural event symbolically marks the entry of select scholars into the Megawide family, with students pursuing degrees in Accountancy, Management Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Real Estate Management. Each scholar received a custom Megawide Foundation jacket, signifying their official status as beneficiaries of the Megawide Scholarship Program (MSP).

The ceremony highlighted the potential and hard work of the scholars. MCFI President Tata Saavedra emphasized that supporting their education empowers future leaders who will contribute significantly to national advancement and create First-World opportunities for their communities.

MCFI Independent Director Celso Vivas opened the event with an inspiring speech about his journey from being a working student to an industry leader, underscoring the importance of resilience and determination. Scholars engaged in a panel discussion with Vivas and Saavedra, along with MCFI Independent Trustee Paulette Lui and Megawide Construction Chief Operating Officer Frederick Tan. They provided valuable insights into Megawide’s commitment to nation-building and discussed various career paths within the industry.

Since 2015, MCFI has supported nearly 100 students through a holistic academic program that includes life skills training, leadership workshops, and mentorship sessions known as “MeGabay,” facilitated by industry leaders and experts. This approach not only promotes academic success but also prepares scholars for leadership responsibilities and challenges, equipping them with the strategic mindset and ethical foundation necessary for contributing to a sustainable economy in the Philippines.

MCFI collaborated with partner universities to screen and select deserving students through rigorous assessments. The Foundation team worked alongside registered social workers to conduct home visits to validate each scholar’s eligibility based on family background and commitment to the program.

The ceremony honored 35 scholars from leading universities, including Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Technological University of the Philippines. Families of the scholars expressed excitement and gratitude for this promising opportunity.

MCFI reaffirms its commitment to fostering excellence, integrity, and community among Filipino youth. By investing in education, MCFI continues its mission to uplift families and communities while building a stronger future workforce.
