In honor of the 256th founding anniversary of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM), a three-day Philatelic exhibition, dedicated to the collection of stamps, was held from November 13 to 15, with the launch last November 13 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
The second day highlighted the debut of the ‘Dogs in Philippine History Special Stamps,’ inspired by historian Ian Christopher Alfonso’s book, ‘Dogs in Philippine History.’ These stamps increased awareness and appreciation for our country’s history and treatment of dogs, featuring the pet dog of young Jose Rizal, Saver (the iconic Aspin from 1990s television), and the Dalmatians of revolutionary writer Marcelo del Pilar, among others.
A pet show, featuring animal trainer June Lazarte and his Chihuahua, Bullet, showcased tricks and a performance of the Philippine folk dance, ‘tinikling’.
On the third day, PHLPost unveiled the “National Children’s Month Stamps,” influenced by the well-known illustrator Beth Parrocha’s book. The stamps aligned with National Children’s Month, emphasizing children’s needs in areas such as physical and mental health, education, and overall well-being, showcasing our love and concern for their future.
Other activities included the official signing of stamps and First Day Cover envelopes, the sale of postage stamps, and National ID registration by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Diageo Philippines turns over 2 metric tons of collected used glass containers
Diageo Philippines launched its first ever post-consumer glass recovery and recycling initiative to promote sustainability and circular economy last July 2023 in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
The Diageo Harmony is part of Diageo’s Society 2030: Spirit of Progress initiative to reduce solid waste contribution to landfills. This program is possible through the partnership with waste collection company, Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies, Inc. (BEST), and recycling partner San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation (SMYPC).
The program collects empty and clean used glass containers, including Diageo empty product bottles, through various collection points across BGC. These are then sorted and consolidated by BEST and will later be returned to SMYPC’s Manila Glass Plant for recycling. The used glass containers will be broken into cullet and will be used as inputs for manufacturing new glass containers as part of its circular economy program
The ambition for Diageo Harmony is to expand this further to other companies, customers and partners to further extend the reach of this sustainability effort to more cities and geographies in the country. implementation and advancement.
