STT GDC Philippines wins award for outstanding project implementation

The General Trias, Cavite facility of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines (STT GDC Philippines) was recently awarded the prestigious Asia Pacific Cloud & Datacenter Award in the Projects category by W.Media, a key technology publisher and community hub in Asia Pacific. 

The award was decided by a jury of global industry experts based on rigorous criteria covering project objectives, innovative design, timing, cost control, and sustainability. Malana received the award on November 30 at the Asia-Pacific Awards Gala Dinner and Ceremony at the Kowloon Shangri-La in Hong Kong. 

The STT Cavite 1 4.3 MW facility is one of seven facilities of STT GDC Philippines in Metro Manila, Cavite and Davao which underwent a substantial expansion to serve growing data center service needs in the Philippines and the region. 

In May, it broke ground on the STT Fairview data center campus, which will become the largest interconnected and carrier-neutral data center in the Philippines at a capacity of 124 MW upon its completion in early 2025.

Last month, STT GDC Philippines also announced the start of construction on STT Cavite 2, which will rise as a two-storey building with a gross floor area of over 4,500 square meters, and deliver up to 6 MW of total IT capacity.  

STT GDC Philippines is a joint venture between Globe, Ayala Corporation, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres of Singapore. 

WalterMart partners with 2GO for Seamless Grocery Delivery in Metro Manila

2GO, the Philippines’ largest transportation and logistics solutions provider and a part of the SM Group, was recently selected to be the primary logistics solutions and delivery partner for WalterMart Supermarket’s Ecommerce business. This strategic collaboration provides WalterMart shoppers with the seamless convenience of having their groceries delivered through 2GO, to 13 key cities across Metro Manila.

This service operates across expansive areas within Metro Manila, encompassing Caloocan, Malabon, Valenzuela, Quezon City, San Juan, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pasay, Las Piñas, Bicutan, Parañaque, and Muntinlupa. Additionally, it caters to specific areas in Manila, including Binondo, Tondo, San Andres, and Santa Ana.

2GO is tasked to operationalize Waltermart’s Grocery Delivery Service which ensures same day, scheduled on time delivery of the freshest items for their customers. As the designated logistics partner, 2GO commits to delivering items promptly on the very same day these are ordered.

The primary goal of this service is to provide customers with the freshest and highest quality goods, delivered directly to their homes. With a focus on quality in goods, delivery practices, and overall service. 

This service aims to elevate the overall shopping experience for customers through user-friendly apps and online platforms, offering a convenient alternative to in-store visits, especially during the upcoming holiday season. Furthermore, it extends its reach to customers residing abroad who wish to shop for their families in Metro Manila.

Cebu Pacific celebrates Christmas with 8-day seat sale

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, joins the holiday festivities as it rolls out its eight-day Christmas seat sale.

From December 11 to 18, 2023, guests may book flights to domestic and international destinations on sale for as low as PHP 88 (one-way base fare exclusive of fees and surcharges). The travel period is from August 1 to November 30, 2024, perfect for travelers who wish to plan and score value-for-money fares this gift-giving season. 

With CEB’s low fares now made more affordable, guests can discover and explore new places listed on their bucket lists. McDonald’s Philippines launches 7th Green & Good flagship store in Ayala Cresendo

McDonald’s Philippines (Golden Arches Development Corporation) continues to pioneer sustainability in the quick-service restaurant industry with the grand opening of its 7th Green & Good flagship store at Ayala Cresendo, Tarlac. Through its Green & Good platform, McDonald’s Philippines has been steadfast in testing and learning different eco-friendly solutions in the construction and operation of its stores, reducing plastic waste through recyclable packaging, and championing active mobility to its customers. 

Joining the prestigious lineup of Green & Good flagship stores, the McDonald’s Ayala Cresendo store features grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on rooftop and lampposts, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) Aircon System, full LED lighting and other energy-efficient solutions that help in the reduction of emissions. 

McDonald’s Ayala Cresendo is the 12th McDonald’s store in the province of Tarlac, and the first Green & Good store in the area. The store will employ 89 crew and 12 Managers who are residents of Tarlac City.

McDonald’s Philippines aims to open more Green & Good stores over the next few years, and reimage existing ones to be equipped with Green and Good solutions. This underscores the company’s mission to lead in sustainable restaurant solutions that contribute to energy conservation, waste reduction, and inclusive dining experiences.

Other McDonald’s Green & Good stores include McDonald’s UN Del Pilar (Manila), Shaw Boulevard Wack-Wack (Mandaluyong), Mambugan (Antipolo), and Delos Reyes (Tagaytay). Nuvali (Sta. Rosa Laguna), and Sta. Monica Commonwealth (Quezon City). 

Sun Life announces Manjit Singh as new president of Sun Life Asia

Kevin Strain, president and chief executive officer of Sun Life Financial Inc. recently announced Manjit Singh will become the new president of Sun Life Asia effective March 18, 2024. He will be based in Hong Kong. 

Mr. Singh, who is currently Sun Life’s executive vice-president and chief financial officer, will be responsible for one of Sun Life’s fastest growing strategic pillars encompassing life, health and wealth management businesses in eight Asian markets — China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. A search to find Mr. Singh’s successor as chief financial officer is underway.

Mr. Singh succeeds Ingrid Johnson, who has taken on the newly created role of vice-chair, Strategic Partnerships for Sun Life globally. 

An active and passionate community leader, Manjit is currently a board member of Trillium Health Partners and formerly the President of ASCEND Canada. He is also a Director on the Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance Company Board. Manjit holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and Executive Master of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He has earned the CA and CFA designations.

Impact Pioneers Network, a first-of-its-kind impact investing network, underscores the importance of making funding options more accessible to Filipino climate entrepreneurs to address urgent climate issues in the country through actionable and scalable climate solutions.
