McDonald’s PH partners with DOLE again for JobStart

In partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), McDonald’s Philippines (Golden Arches Development Corporation), under its master franchise holder Dr. George T. Yang, once again reaffirms its commitment to providing employment opportunities to beneficiaries of the JobStart Program. The partnership was formalized through a MOA signing with DOLE Sec. Bienvenido Laguesma last October 13 at McDonald’s UN Del Pilar in Manila.

Officially launched in 2016, the JobStart program aims to assist fresh graduates and young Filipinos in receiving gainful employment through training programs facilitated by DOLE and PESO.

As one of the first JobStart business partners since its inception, McDonald’s began with 31 beneficiaries in 2016 but this 2023, McDonald’s is renewing this partnership with the goal of having 500 beneficiaries under the program this year.

Beneficiaries under the JobStart program will undergo a 2-part training program, assessment and go through job matching and referrals with the program’s business partners. The program covers 3 months or 600 hours with a training allowance.

FedEx self-collection service at LRT stations

FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has launched a self-collection service for FedEx packages at Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 stations in Metro Manila.

At no extra charge, customers and online shoppers can now enjoy greater flexibility and convenience by having the option of picking up their FedEx packages at any one of the 19 stations along LRT Line 1, traversing Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, and Pasay. Each self-collection point has 66 lockers that are available for package collection.

Using FedEx Delivery Manager International (FDMi), small- and medium- size enterprises and e-commerce businesses can have shipments delivered to any of the LRT Line 1 stations closest to their customers for pick-up at their convenience, making their shipping experience easier.

JTI Philippines inaugurates new office in BGC

JT Group president and CEO Masamichi Terabatake led the formal inauguration of the new offices of JTI Philippines in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City, at the 11th and 12th floors of Ore Central Tower at the corner of 31st Street and 9th Avenue.

Mr. Terabatake was joined in the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Japan Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) director-general Tereso Panga, National Tobacco Administration (NTA) head Belinda Sanchez, and top JTI officials led by Yves Barbier, JTI Asia Pacific regional president and JTI Philippines general manager John Freda.

The new space can accommodate the 300+ employees of JTI’s head office in addition to its 38 sales branches nationwide. The move is a testament that the company has continued to grow despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Moreover, JTI operates its own business processing office, Global Business Services (GBS), in McKinley West, also in Taguig City, which employs 600+ employees, together with its manufacturing facilities in Malvar, Batangas, with a workforce of almost 900.

Metro Pacific Health shows support for nurses at ‘Project Nightingale’

The first inaugural ceremony of the Soledad Velez-Pangilinan: The MPH Nursing Excellence Award (SVP-NEA) concluded last October 20, in an event attended by Metro Pacific Health (MPH) leaders, notably MPH chairman, Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan; MPH vice-chairman and president, Augusto P. Palisoc Jr., MPH CEO, Dr. Harish Pillai, MPH chief nursing officer (CNO), Dr. Annabelle R. Borromeo, and MPH chief marketing & chief customer experience officer, Ms. Jessica Abaya. Also present during the awarding and celebration were Presidents, CEOs, COOs, and CNOs from the different MPH Hospitals whose Nurses were nominated as Finalists for the SVP-NEA 2023.

Last October 20, Metro Pacific Health (MPH), the largest group of private hospitals in the country, celebrated its special event called Project Nightingale for the first time ever.

MPH’s Project Nightingale is a one-of-a-kind initiative that aims to empower Filipino nursing students and current nurses in the country. The recent culmination day was a three-part event that took place during National Nurses Week.

Over 500 students spread across 200 schools throughout the country participated in the hospital-level rounds, competing to be their hospital’s representative in the National Championship. Each champion team of the hospital-level events received cash prizes and a generous scholarship to fund their nursing studies.

The BOTN culminated in the National Championship, where 12 schools–all winners of their respective hospital level round–competed for the title of the National Champions.
