GGDC named top investor

UDENNA Land president Wilfredo  Placino accepts the Top Investor recognition for GGDC at Clark Awards.

Japan—Philippines Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On May 16, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, met with Hon. Enrique A. Manalo, secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, for approximately 35 minutes during the latter’s visit to Japan.

Minister Hayashi welcomed Secretary Manalo’s visit to Japan following his last visit in February, and expressed his sympathies on the passing of former Foreign Secretary Del Rosario. Secretary Manalo acknowledged the sympathies and went on to express gratitude for Japan’s rapid assistance in response to the oil spill disaster off the coast of Mindoro Island earlier in the year.

Minister Hayashi referred to the outcomes of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Karuizawa, Nagano, as well as Japan’s philosophy toward the prospective G7 Hiroshima Summit, and explained the new plan for a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).” 

The two ministers went on to exchange views on matters of mutual interest in the region and the international community, and affirmed to work together closely on such issues as the situation in the East and South China Seas, economic coercion, the situation in Ukraine, and dealing with North Korea, including on the nuclear and missile issues, and the abductions issue.

Both acknowledged the successful visit of President Marcos last February, concurred on steady implementation of cooperation projects, bilaterally, with the United States, and multilaterally, in line with the “Japan—Philippines Joint Statement” and on security cooperation. 

On economic cooperation, Minister Hayashi reiterated Japan’s intention to actively support the Philippines’ attainment of Upper Middle Income status. The two ministers concurred on continued cooperation.

Toyota Ilocos Sur breaks ground

Toyota Ilocos Sur will soon serve the mobility needs of customers in Ilocos Region with its dealership rising in Barangay Langlangca II, Candon City. 

This will be Toyota Motor Philippines’  (TMP) 74th outlet in the country.

 Toyota Ilocos Sur will be a ‘3S’ Facility that provides sales, service, and spare parts. Situated in a 2-hectare lot, the dealership will have a total floor area of 5,868 sq.m. It will feature a four-car display showroom and a workshop with 37 General Service & Body Repair Bays.

 Enchanted Kingdom brought back the Golden Era of OPM

Enchanted Kingdom in partnership with DSL Events and roduction House, successfully transported audiences back to the golden era of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) with The Four Kings and Queen concert, held on May 7 at the Enchanting Events Place. The event was co-presented by Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas and the City of Santa Rosa, Laguna, in a bid to showcase the beauty and richness of Filipino music.

The night was filled with soulful renditions of OPM classics, all performed by the original Hitmakers Marco Siso, Hajji Alejandro, Nonoy Zuñiga, Rey Valera and the Concert Queen herself, Pops Fernandez under the musical direction of Gerry Matias.

Samsung Ph helps TESDA provide skills training

 Samsung Philippines has renewed its partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The partnership was sealed during the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement at the TESDA Central Office, which was attended by representatives from Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp., Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp. and TESDA.

 The Samsung and TESDA Technical Training Program aims to equip them with competencies and opportunities by providing skills development and training so that they can unleash their potential in non-traditional trades in ICT and the electronics sector.

 The new partnership consists of the Consumer Electronics Training Program for the TESDA Women’s Center and the Handheld Device Training Program under TVET or Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Both programs provide in-plant and in-school training based on a training plan established and conducted collaboratively by an accredited educational institution and a business entity. 

The power of the ‘Hapag’

 Kyani Philippines, a corporate member of the Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) has entered a four-year partnership with Globe Telecom to raise funds for the Hapag Movement.

As a global health and wellness company, Kyani seeks to uplift the lives of women, children, and families worldwide. In the Philippines, Kyani earlier provided supplemental feeding for close to 20,000 public school children and continues to provide meals to children in Payatas.

Partnering with Globe, Kyani hopes to expand its reach and promote wellness through the Hapag Movement.

Globe has opened credit card donations via the Hapag Movement website, allowing Filipinos abroad to contribute to the cause. Those in the Philippines may use Globe Rewards via the GlobeOne app and GCash as donation platforms aside from credit cards.

Malayan stays no. 1

Malayan Insurance Co. Inc. has led the country’s non-life insurance industry anew in terms of gross premiums written (GPW), based on the recent report from the Insurance Commission (IC). 

For 53 consecutive years, Malayan Insurance has been leading the non-life insurance industry.

Last year, the insurer registered a GPW of P15.9 billion, or the highest in the industry based on unaudited quarterly reports on selected financial statistics submitted by insurance companies. 

Paolo Abaya, president and chief executive officer of Malayan Insurance, attributed this to the continued strengthening of retail business through non-traditional products, improvement of customer services, and partnerships to offer relevant products and services to clients.

Malayan Insurance invests in non-traditional products, to cater to the evolving needs of customers from various demographics.   

TELUS donation

 TELUS International Philippines has announced that the TELUS International Philippines Community Board–the company’s fund-granting foundation that looks for worthy causes to support communities with unique needs–is accepting grant applications from non-profit and charitable organizations until June 9 for Q2 and September 15 for Q3. 

In 2022, the TELUS International Philippines Community Board provided over P 6.2 million in grants to 14 non-profit organizations that focused on education and livelihood programs which helped more than 4,400 beneficiaries around the country. These included non-government organizations PadyaRescue Incorporated and Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development.

Good governance in the supply chain

The Aboitiz Group extended its commitment to supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as it joined the “Business Round Table: Strengthening Good Governance in the Supply Chain.” 

The roundtable was organized by the Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP), the Basel Institute of Governance, and the Asia Institute of Management (AIM) Ramon V. Del Rosario Sr. Center for Social Responsibility.

The gathering explored the vital role of corporate governance, business integrity, and their profound linkages with sustainability in the context of supply chain management. The panel focused on key challenges faced by larger companies when entering new markets or new business partners. They also deliberated on ways in which companies can foster an enabling environment for MSMEs within their supply chain, as well as highlighting the support needed by MSMEs to elevate their standards of integrity and promote fair business practices.

The speakers championed sustainability and embodied the spirit of integrity, leading the charge toward creating an environment of good governance and accountability from the top down. The impact spreads beyond the business community to the people they serve.
