Globe Business donation

Globe and international food rescue organization Scholars of Sustenance Philippines Food Rescue (SOS PH) clinched a partnership under the former’s Hapag Movement banner program.

In collaboration with Filipino-Chinese restaurant community group Fil-Chi Ho Tsia Ho Dim, Globe Business was able to donate food that supplemented the evening feeding program of the Most Holy Trinity Parish for 100 beneficiaries in Sampaloc, Manila.

Fil-Chi Ho Tsia Ho Dim members shared a variety of food items from their menus. Papel na Liempo – Aurora Cubao contributed Salo packs of their pork chips. Muyoo Philippines, Inc. shared their white bread loaves. Tasty Snacks gave tubs of their pork siomai.

SOS PH, through its food rescue operations, utilizes safe surplus food by redistributing it to vulnerable communities in need. Recently launched in the Philippines, they aim to bring to the country its goal of reducing hunger and food waste.

The Hapag Movement is Globe’s platform that connects multi-sectoral partners who can contribute to addressing hunger and joblessness to achieve social impact at scale. It provides supplemental feeding while building the capacity of beneficiary families through livelihood training.

IELTS more accessible

This 2023, the British Council aims to make IELTS more accessible to Filipinos by opening new official test centers in different parts of the country.

Through its partnership with the Center for Premier International Language Studies (CPILS), Roman Canadian Immigration Services, and 9.0 Niner IELTS Review Centre, the British Council added five new locations to its expanding roster, with plans to open more in the coming months. The new test centers are conveniently located in Cebu City, Imus, Lipa, Makati, and Manila.

The International English Language Test System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test, recognized by hundreds of global institutions. It is developed by some of the world’s leading experts in language assessment and evaluates all English skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking.

With the recent opening of new locations, the British Council hopes to accommodate more test takers and provide service to a wider community. The centers offer IELTS on Paper and IELTS on Computer, giving options for test takers to choose a medium they are most comfortable with. Paper tests are available two to three times a month in Metro Manila, and once a month in other key cities. Meanwhile, computer tests are more flexible and are readily available, with daily schedules.

Lightning-fast remittance

Canadian-based digital payment platform Neutronpay announced its partnership with Pouch.ph to enable fast, secure, and low-cost money transfers from Canada and Vietnam to the Philippines.

The partnership allows Filipino workers living in Canada or Vietnam to send money directly to a Philippine bank or eWallet instantly and with far better exchange rates than was previously possible.

Through Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, Canadian dollars or Vietnamese dong are converted into Bitcoin. Pouch.ph then converts the Bitcoin into Philippine pesos and directly transfers to the recipient’s bank or mobile money account.

The NeutronPay app is currently available exclusively on the Canadian and Vietnamese app stores, while Pouch.ph can be downloaded on Google Play and Apple Store.
