Maynilad wins 5 Silver Anvil Awards

Maynilad communications and operations teams led by chief operating officer Randolph Estrellado (center) at the awards ceremonies.

Maynilad Water Services Inc. won five Silvers at the 58th Anvil Awards held recently at the Manila Marriot Hotel in Pasay City.

Maynilad received three Silver Anvil awards under the Public Relations (PR) Tools Category for its “Mayni-LAD to the Rescue!” Wastewater Video Episode 5 and “Sagot ni Kuya Dong” NEW WATER Facebook Videos (Multimedia — Social Media Tool), and “Alab CXRO Midyear Rally 2022” (Special Events and Exhibits).

The water company also bagged Silvers under the Specialized PR Programs Category for its “Sobriedad Pipe Realignment Information Campaign” and “Pipe Breakage at Pureza: Managing the Public Backlash” program (Crisis/Risk Communication for Private and Public Sector).

Skechers flagship store opens in Glorietta

Skechers, The Comfort Technology Companyâ„¢, is taking its presence in the Philippines to the next level with a new flagship store in Glorietta. Located on the second level of the mall, the store will be the global brand’s largest store in the Philippines to date, at 379-square-meters and is designed to present Skechers’ extensive footwear and apparel offerings in one of the country’s most highly trafficked districts.

UnionBank, UMID tie-up

Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) has partnered  with the Social Security System (SSS) for the new UnionBank SSS UMID ATM Pay Card, which functions as both a government-issued ID card and ATM card linked to a UnionBank savings account.

Since the launch, many qualified SSS members have upgraded to a UnionBank SSS UMID ATM Pay Card and are currently enjoying its perks and benefits.

SSS members can expect to receive their upgraded UMID cards faster. UnionBank also makes sure that the cards are delivered safely and securely.

Members will also be able to use the UnionBank mobile banking platform to check their balance, withdraw cash, transfer funds, pay bills, or deposit cash through UnionBank’s branches, self-service machines, and BancNet automated teller machines nationwide.

Upgrading to the UnionBank SSS UMID ATM Pay Card is free, and members who fund their account with a minimum of P1,000 are entitled to a free Jollibee eGC worth Php 200 and a chance to win a brand-new Mitsubishi Xpander GLS, or one of three iPhone 14 128GB units. This promo is extended to April 30.

Rakuten Viber partners with Taxumo

Viber continues to champion micro, small and medium enterprises and empower their businesses as it allies with online tax filing and payment platform Taxumo.

Pilmico supports rabbit raisers

Pilmico and Gold Coin Group recently turned over specialty equipment to the Carmen Municipal Slaughterhouse to benefit rabbit raisers in their community.

Representatives of Pilmico led by AVP for Livestock Mindanao Jefferson Abian turned over the rabbit meat processing equipment to the Davao del Norte Quality Rabbit Meat Producers Association.

This donation aligns with the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) initiative to promote rabbit raising. In a memo circulated by the DA last February 6, they stated that rabbit meat has high protein content, iron, and minerals and is low in cholesterol. Furthermore, it can serve as an alternative source of income for farmers. 

Pilmico launched its rabbit feeds brand Kunemax last 2021 amidst the rising demand for protein consumption.

‘Reignite the MADgic’

To reignite the “MADgic” of volunteerism, I am MAD (Making A Difference) Volunteers Inc., a nationwide nonprofit, non-governmental organization, gathered recently in Botolan, Zambales for its annual “MAD Meet.”

Formerly known as “MAD Convention,” the annual volunteers’ get-together was rebranded as MAD Meet coinciding with the celebration of the NGO’s 13th anniversary and the return of its full face-to-face community engagements.

With the theme Reignite the MADgic: Celebrating 13 Years of Volunteerism, the two-day grand reunion of volunteers from all over the country focused on rekindling the spark among past and present members, relighting their paths forward, reawakening their vision for the organization, renewing their passions, and reliving the MADgic of volunteerism for the community.

Volunteers had the opportunity to explore, experience, and educate themselves more about organic and sustainable farming at the Sambali Beach Farm. 

Capping the event is the Gawad I am MAD (Star MADgic Night), which recognized all the volunteers behind the successful conduct of I am MAD programs, initiatives,  and engagements from the onset of the pandemic in 2020 to 2022. 

CODEGODA is back

Agoda has announced the return of its annual global programming competition, Codegoda. 

Now on its fourth year, the competition has grown to become an equal-opportunity platform welcoming coders of all ages, backgrounds, genders and levels of experience.

The single-round competition runs from 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. ICT (Indochina Time) (2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Philippine time) on  April 1. Participants will be tasked to solve six algorithmic problems, within a three-hour window, mimicking real-life issues faced by Agoda’s tech team daily. No one-size solution fits all, freeform problem-solving methods are encouraged, and coders can choose to use any programming language to solve the issue. 

To-date, the competition has played host to over 20,000 participants from 89 markets. 

LUNA Academy taps partners

LUNA Academy partnered with Learn German Ph, Xaltius, and Enderun Colleges in the first quarter of 2023, driven by a shared goal to promote employability among the youth in the Philippines.

Learn German Ph is founded by a group of German language instructors with 20 years of cumulative experience in the teaching industry, rooted in their commitment to provide high-quality online language training and guidance to those who want to live and work in Germany. 

Another  partnership of LUNA is with Xaltius, an innovative software solutions and training provider that will help LUNA through IT infrastructure support as well as training curriculum development. 

LUNA also partnered with Enderun, a premiere private education institution that provides students with an immersive learning environment with its industry-specific programs, highly experienced faculty, and extensive local and international internship placements. “

Cyber insurance

UBX has tapped global top insurance company PGA Sompo Insurance Corp. to beef up its customer protection mechanism through personal cyber insurance.

UBX will serve as the principal policyholder for its end-users who are covered by the group insurance. Customers are guaranteed financial protection against electronic fund transfer fraud, identity theft, online retail fraud, purchase protection, and other cybersecurity-related threats.

This serves as an additional safety measure on top of the existing safety and security layers that UBX has deployed for its customers. 

This cyber insurance covers all end users of UBX platforms such as i2i, the banking-as-a-service platform of UBX; BUx, an end-to-end payment solutions platform; and Sentro, an online shop builder.
