MMDC partners with 7-Eleven and GCash for working students
Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC) has has partnered with 7-Eleven, the largest convenience store chain in the world, and GCash, the Philippines’ #1 finance super app. Both partnerships aim to create greater educational and career development opportunities for working students in the country.
The partnership between MMDC and 7-Eleven will lead to the creation of a scholarship program for non-graduate 7-Eleven employees. Each scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees and is valid for 45 units to be completed in two years.
Alongside the establishment of the scholarship program for working students, MMDC students can also explore internship and career opportunities at 7-Eleven.
MMDC’s Business Administration majors will use their expertise in operations management, marketing management, and human resource management to equip 7-Eleven employees with modern skills that are essential for career growth.
As a financial technology (FinTech) institution, GCash continues to play a large role in advancing greater financial inclusion across the country. The partnership between MMDC and GCash opens up internship and employment opportunities for MMDC students.
Through the GCash Early Career Program, students can apply their knowledge in a real tech company as interns, with possible avenues for employment available upon graduation.
DBP extends P180M loan for new Iloilo City slaughterhouse
State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has granted a P180-million loan to the city government of Iloilo as part of ongoing efforts to bolster livestock production to meet the rising demand in the fledging city, a top official said.
DBP president and chief executive officer Michael O. de Jesus said the project was financed under the Bank’s Assistance for Economic and Social Development (ASENSO) for LGUs Financing Program and would be used primarily to construct a fully-mechanized modern slaughterhouse in the area.
De Jesus said the modern slaughterhouse is expected to attain export-grade classification, with its capacity to process more than 500 swine heads a day.
He said the credit assistance for the modern slaughterhouse is part of the P2.13-billion loan granted under the ASENSO program to Iloilo City, which was used to enhance vital public services such as rehabilitation of public markets, construction of the city hospital and acquisition of medical equipment, construction of a parking building, and acquisition of relocation sites for informal settlers.
Under the DBP ASENSO Program, the bank has assisted a total of 362 LGU- borrowers with loan approvals reaching P91.7-billion and loan releases hitting P26.3-billion as of end of September this year.

Security Bank and MUFG Bank Manila branch school building donation
Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) turned over its fifth school building in Cebu–a two-story, six-classroom structure at Pusok Elementary School in Lapu-Lapu City–on November 10.
One of the classrooms was donated by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) Bank Manila branch to commemorate its 70th anniversary. Notably, MUFG is the largest financial services group in Japan and a strategic partner of Security Bank since 2016.
In August, Security Bank employees in Cebu volunteered to apply the initial coat of the school building paint as their way of supporting SBFI’s education advocacy and giving back to the community.
The donation to Pusok Elementary School marks SBFI’s 721st classroom donation across 128 schools in 72 cities and municipalities nationwide as part of its “Build a School, Build a Nation” program. To date, SBFI has donated 30 classrooms within the Cebu province. Previous Cebu beneficiary schools include Basak Elementary School, Jagobiao National High School, and Tipolo National High School in Mandaue City, as well as Sabang Elementary School in Danao City.

Ayala Corporation has received the most prized recognition at the 2023 Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES).
ACES named Ayala as Asia’s Most Sustainable Company of the Year and one of Asia’s Most Influential Companies for “boldly leading the charge towards a sustainable future and inspiring others to join the movement.” The awards were received by Vickie Tan, head of group risk and sustainability unit of Ayala Corporation.
Considered as one of the most prestigious cross-industry accolades in Asia, ACES also previously named Ayala as among the top sustainability and CSR advocates in Asia.
Jollibee Group cited anew in ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards
The Jollibee Group has once again been awarded with a 1-Golden Arrow Recognition from the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) Golden Arrow Awards, acknowledging the company’s success in responsible and transparent business practices.
Organized by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), the award recognizes the top Philippine publicly listed companies in corporate governance based on the ACGS.
According to ICD, the Golden Arrow is awarded to companies that achieved a score of at least eighty points in the ACGS Assessment, which means the company has exhibited observable conformance with the Philippine Code of Corporate Governance and internationally recommended corporate governance practices as espoused by the ACGS.
It measures the performance of companies in the areas of facilitating the rights and the equitable treatment of shareholders, how they relate to their different stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability thru timely disclosure of material information, and how the board guides the company strategically, monitors the management, and ensures the board’s accountability to the company and the shareholders.
The scorecard is composed of 184 questions based on publicly available disclosures on the companies’ websites. It aims to raise the corporate governance standards and practices of the country and to make well-governed Philippine publicly listed companies attractive to investors.

(Smart) scale up their digital upskilling-to-e-commerce program ‘eBiznovation’, enhancing the digital skills of 100 Laguna-based Micro-, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), in partnership with TikTok Shop, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Laguna, and the Laguna Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
