Maynilad earns ISO recertification

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc.  was recently awarded an ISO recertification in Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS) from international auditing and certification body TUV Rheinland Philippines.

The ISO 22301:2019 recertification confirms that Maynilad has established an effective system on water provision that complies with international standards. It speaks of the water company’s sustainability and operational resiliency in the event of a disaster, pandemic, and technical and security-related emergencies.

“Calamities could severely hamper the continued provision of water supply to customers; hence we have established a system that would ensure quick operational recovery during such instances. Maynilad’s recertification in this ISO standard confirms that our BCMS is aligned with global best practices,” said Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez.

Globe signs in AcadArena as first gaming partner to support the Hapag Movement

Globe is tapping the local gaming community to help alleviate hunger.  As gaming continues to thrive in the country, Globe saw an opportunity to give customers an avenue to contribute to something meaningful through The Hapag Movement, a fundraising initiative that aims to encourage support for vulnerable families and communities.

To jumpstart the gaming industry’s involvement in The Hapag Movement, AcadArena, a leading organization for campus gaming and esports education in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, was the first to signify its support. They have a long-standing partnership with Globe that focuses on building skills development programs, hosting gaming leagues and tournaments, and providing scholarship support.

The Hapag Movement was introduced to the Filipino public at a hybrid event with the media held last April 27 at Versus Barcade in Taguig. In line with Globe’s priority to promote Gaming for Good, the Hapag Movement also highlights the use of technology in the company’s unified fight against hunger.

Globe is activating its ecosystem of partners to help inspire collective action. To do this, Globe is utilizing digital platforms such as GCash and Globe Rewards to enable its customers to donate, and is tapping the gaming community to contribute to the cause.

The Hapag Movement is part of the Globe of Good program, an initiative of the Globe Group which focuses on hunger alleviation, capacity-building, and providing livelihood opportunities for long-term results.

Partners for the Globe of Good include the Ayala Foundation’s #BrigadangAyalaKaakay Program, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and Caritas Philippines. Globe employees have also taken part in the initiative and have so far raised P900,000.

Save gas, money

In line with the global mission of preserving the environment, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. has been offering a range of fuel-efficient models to choose from.

The company offers the following tips on how to save on fuel:

  1. Follow the prescribed maintenance schedule for your vehicle. Keeping your car in shape will help ensure good performance in the long run.
  2. Get a fuel-efficient vehicle. Consider Honda, the technology behind the design and development of Honda vehicles speaks of dynamic performance and reliability, combined with lower emissions because every drop of fuel is optimized.
  3. Plan and combine trips. When safe, car-pooling is quite the option to reduce trips and fuel consumption.

Drive smoothly, not aggressively. Smooth driving is safer for everyone on the road while sudden acceleration and hard braking both increase fuel consumption and emissions.

Minimize idling. Staying idle for long means burning fuel without going anywhere.

Get rid of all extra weight. Remember, the more weight a car needs to pull, the more effort the engine needs, and the more fuel it consumes.

Keep your tires properly inflated. Underinflated tires mean more rolling resistance and more work for your engine.

Educational campaign

In recognition of the World Ankylosing Spondylitis Day, the Axial Spondyloarthritis Association of the Philippines (ASAPh) and Philippine Alliance of Patient Organizations (PAPO), in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson (Philippines) Inc. (J&J Philippines) rolled out an educational campaign and medical consultation for ASAPh members nationwide.

The educational campaign supports the organizations’ goal of spreading greater awareness that will help prevent late diagnosis and halt the progression of the disease.

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is one of the two types of Axial Spondyloarthritis — a chronic, rheumatic disease that primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joints.

Through this awareness, consultation, and education program, J&J Philippines helps to connect those suffering from AS with the right medical specialists. AS patients go through initial consultation and screening to assess their current condition before being endorsed to a specialist who can be either an orthopedist, rheumatologist, or a physiatrist.
