The Mapúa Education Group is redefining education’s future with its groundbreaking Co-Intelligence AI Strategy, empowering students, faculty, and employees to thrive where human creativity integrates seamlessly with artificial intelligence.

The official launch last September 17 at Mapúa University’s Makati campus was led by President and CEO Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo alongside key officials from Mapúa University, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM), and Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC).

“AI is no longer optional. It is reshaping industries, redefining skills, and reimagining learning. This is why today we are formally launching the Mapua Education Group’s Co-Intelligence Strategy,” Maestrecampo remarked. “We will learn with AI using AI tools to enhance teaching and learning; we will learn about AI, embedding AI literacy across every program; and we will work with AI, equipping our faculty and staff with AI tools for teaching, research, and operations.”

The strategy encompasses AI-infused curriculum, embedded AI courses, professional development programs, and experiential learning initiatives while promoting critical thinking, ethical AI use, and human-centricity.

Philippines’ first BS AI Engineering Program

Mapúa University pioneered the B.S. in AI Engineering—the Philippines’ first dedicated AI engineering degree—initially available at the School of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering in Manila.

“It is designed with reference to the Philippine Skills Framework for Analytics and AI to address growing demands for AI engineers across sectors,” said Dr. Arnold Paglinawan, Dean of the School. “We have applied AI projects addressing Philippine challenges like disaster response AI systems, agricultural yield optimization, healthcare diagnostics for underserved areas, and local language processing tools.”

“The way forward for our students is to be the first generation of AI native engineers,” Paglinawan declared. “With a century of engineering excellence behind it, Mapúa University is building the future of AI engineering in the Philippines—one student at a time.”

Guest speaker Rowena Subido, RCBC’s First Senior Vice President, addressed workforce concerns: “AI will only replace your job if you do not have skills. If you do not have the skills, then upskill, reskill, and retool—those are the key things.”
