Makati public schools topped both regional and national average scores across all subjects in the 2023-2024 National Achievement Test (NAT) for Grade 6 students, Mayor Abby Binay announced Tuesday.
The city’s Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of 68.54 significantly surpassed both the National Capital Region (61.02) and national (57.94) averages.
“We are elated with the city’s remarkable performance,” Binay said. “It is heartening to see that all our efforts to provide the best education to our youth have translated to better academic and cognitive skills.”
Makati excelled in 21st Century Skills, scoring 69.82 in Problem Solving, 70.59 in Information Literacy and 65.13 in Critical Thinking — all well above regional and national averages.
The city also outperformed in all key learning areas: English (74.82), Science (60.26), Mathematics (65.51), Filipino (72.27) and Araling Panlipunan (69.73).
Additionally, Grade 3 students achieved an overall MPS of 78.27 in the Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Assessment, exceeding both NCR (68.17) and national (60.50) averages.
“Makati’s strong performance validates our firm commitment to making quality education accessible to all and developing future-ready, globally competitive citizens,” Binay said.
During her term, the mayor implemented innovative programs that transformed public schools with smart classrooms and enhanced student support. Makati provides students with uniforms, school supplies, and daily nutritious snacks. The city’s signature AB sneakers program, now in its seventh year, has inspired other local governments to provide similar benefits.
“Our investments in education are well-thought-out because we want to ensure every child, including those from poor families, achieves their optimum potential,” Binay said.
