A local bakery in Cuenca, Batangas, has partnered with the Philippine Association of Flour Millers, Inc. (PAMIL) and Baker’s Percent to provide thousands of high-protein bakery products to typhoon victims in the province. The initiative comes in response to the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), which severely impacted the region.
Cuenca is known for its vibrant community of bakeries and was one of the hardest-hit areas during the storm. The bakery, named after its owner Luis Chavez, is committed to supporting the local community by delivering nutritious baked goods to those in need.
The collaboration focuses on producing healthy bread and ensuring a clean water supply, which are essential during calamities due to their ease of production and distribution. The bakery’s offerings include protein-enriched pandesal and ube nutri-bun, specifically designed to complement meals provided by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) through mobile kitchens.
Chavez emphasized the importance of providing nutritious food to locals who faced challenges accessing essential supplies amid ongoing heavy rains and strong winds. The bakery was among the first responders to deliver food to evacuees, ensuring that everyone, including those outside evacuation centers, received adequate nourishment.
Despite significant flooding and landslides that made many roads impassable, the bakery’s strategic location facilitated logistics and coordination with PSWDO. The areas receiving baked products included Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Batangas City, Balete, Bauan, Calatagan, Cuenca, Ibaan, Laurel, Lemery, Lipa City, San Jose, San Luis, San Nicolas, Taal, and Tanauan City.
This initiative highlights the spirit of bayanihan—community cooperation—demonstrating how local businesses can come together to support those affected by natural disasters. TBF Foods remains dedicated to helping the Batangas community recover from this calamity through continued support and nourishment.
