ON January 26, 2024, in Calinog, Iloilo, First Secretary and Agriculture Attaché Tachikawa Jumpei participated in the official turnover of agroforestry support facilities completed under the Forestland Management Project (FMP).
Ten agroforestry support facilities were handed over in the municipalities of Calinog, Lambunao, and Janiuay, Iloilo. These facilities, including irrigation pipeline systems, access roads, pathways, and bridges, aim to connect communities to markets, enhance access to social services, and sustain community-based forestry initiatives.
Additionally, a coffee processing facility was constructed in January to further develop coffee processing and boost livelihoods in Iloilo.
This initiative is part of the 10-year, 9.244-billion-yen FMP funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
In his message, Tachikawa expressed hope that the project would contribute not only to climate change mitigation and environmental protection but also to improved livelihoods and sustained development in the municipalities, creating a positive ripple effect in neighboring communities.
