Indonesia Trade Expo at SM Megamall
Mallgoers had the rare opportunity to get a glimpse of Indonesia’s rich culture, food, and lifestyle during the recent Indonesia Trade Expo at the Event Center of SM Megamall.
A joint project of the Indonesian Embassy in Manila and G20 Indonesia, in partnership with Bank Indonesia and SM, the event was held just in time for the celebration of the 77th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. It aimed to introduce and to strengthen the awareness of Indonesian products to Filipino consumers – fashion and personal care items, handicrafts, and food and beverage products.
H.E. Indonesian Ambassador Agus Widjojo led the opening ceremony with a welcome remark. Indonesian Embassy Minister Counsellor Kusuma Pradopo, Charge d’affairesWidyaRahmanto, Trade Attache Martin Pandapotan, SM representatives, and diplomats from other embassies were also present during the trade fair.
During the 3-day exposition, nearly 20 Indonesian companies featured their international and locally available products.
Alfamart Philippines, a joint venture between theSM Group and PT SumberAlfariaTrijayaTbk (Alfamart Indonesia) likewise showcased their grocery items.

Eastern Communications at ACC
Eastern Communications is showcasing its extensive network across the Philippines and its various ICT products and services at the Asian Carriers Conference (ACC) 2022 at Crimson Resort Boracay which is ongoing until September 23.
With over 1,000 delegates representing more than 300 companies all over the world, ACC is one of Asia’s biggest and most-awaited telecommunications conferences that gathers industry leaders around the world to discuss, collaborate, network, and forge alliances. Security Bank supports Brigada Eskwela
Security Bank Foundation Inc. (SBFI) responded to the call of the Department of Education (DepEd) to provide multi-sectoral support for the opening of classes through the agency’s Brigada Eskwela initiative.
SBFI supported the DepEd Brigada Eskwela regional kick-off week by turning over Knowledge Channel Portable Media Libraries (PMLs) and 306 Makeroscopes (keychain microscope sets) to 11 SBFI Classrooms Project beneficiary schools in the Davao Region.
SBFI’s initiative to donate learning resources in Davao Region complements its flagship program, Build A School, Build the Nation: The Classrooms Project. The 11 beneficiary schools were recipients of SBFI’s classroom donation since program inception in 2011. Aside from new classrooms, SBFI provides major repair support, regular training for teachers and principals, and other learner support interventions.
UnionDigital Bank opens future HQ
UnionDigital Bank recently inaugurated its future headquarters in the UnionBank Innovation Campus in San Pedro, Laguna with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in attendance.
The Innovation Campus will also house various centers of innovation including UnionBank institutes on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and the Asian Institute of Digital Transformation (AIDT).
The campus was inaugurated during the country’s first Innovation Festival, a three-day event that showcased UnionBank’s and UnionDigital Bank’s partners in financial technology innovation, offering a behind the scenes look at some of the bank’s exciting new developments in the space.

Maynilad connections reach 1.5M
West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has expanded its water service connections to 1,501,371 after adding 797,852 connections to its network since re-privatization in 2007. Most of these connections were in unserved areas that Maynilad committed to provide with piped-in surface water.
Around 98 percent of those with Maynilad connections have 24-hour water supply–up from only 46 percent in 2007. Maynilad customers who receive their water supply at an average pressure of seven pounds per square inch (psi) also increased from only 53 percent in 2007 to the current 98 percent. Seven psi is the required pressure for water to reach the second floor of a structure.
With its increased service connections, Maynilad’s served population now stands at 9.9 million. This includes areas that have been waterless for decades prior to getting a Maynilad connection.
PLDT, Smart help ensure food security
PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. recently joined Project Rebound’s online forum on agriculture that discussed technology-based solutions in ensuring food security in the country amid the instability due to the pandemic, climate change, and the ongoing global crisis.
PLDT and Smart implement shared value programs on agriculture and food security under its FarmSmart advocacy. This includes the Digital Farmers Program, a capacity-building initiative that enables farmers to keep up with current technology.
Under the Buy Local program, PLDT and Smart locally source rice from farming communities which are either donated to feeding programs or sold to the PLDT group’s employees.
