Hotel Okura Manila, in partnership with Newport World Resorts, hosted an intimate gathering for Kaien, the official opening of Philippines–Japan Friendship Month on July 11, 2025.
The event was graced by H.E. Endo Kazuya, Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, alongside Mr. Ivannovich Dmitriv Agote, OIC – Assistant Regional Director, Department of Tourism, NCR. Ambassador Endo remarked that “you can enjoy Japanese elegance and Filipino hospitality right here, without ever needing to take a flight,” noting Hotel Okura Manila as the perfect venue to celebrate the lasting friendship between Japan and the Philippines.The intimate gathering welcomed 50 distinguished guests, including leaders and senior representatives from esteemed Japanese institutions across corporate, media, and diplomatic sectors. Notable attendees included Filipino-Japanese media personality Show Suzuki with his mother and manager.
The afternoon opened with a stirring Taiko drum performance by Manila Groove Talents. Key representatives from Newport World Resorts and Hotel Okura Manila shared messages of friendship, followed by a ceremonial sake toast where VIPs raised traditional masu wooden cups in a symbolic gesture of unity.

The program concluded with a captivating performance by the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC), whose rendition of “Salamat Sa Musika” with choreography left the audience moved. Guests then enjoyed a specially curated Kisetsu buffet highlighting vibrant Filipino and Japanese flavors.
Throughout July, Hotel Okura Manila is offering seasonal experiences and culinary offerings inspired by Philippines–Japan Friendship Month, showcasing Japan’s refined flavors and cultural elegance.
