Hedcor, AboitizPower’s run-of-river hydropower arm, has delivered more than P6 million in community shares to host municipalities and barangays in Benguet, supporting local infrastructure, public services, and livelihood programs.
The Municipality of Sablan received over P2 million, with three of its barangays collecting a combined P1.3 million. La Trinidad municipality and three barangays received P1.3 million, with remaining shares distributed to Tuba, Itogon, and Benguet Province. These funds represent Hedcor’s hydro power generation shares for 2024.
Under the Department of Energy’s ER 1-94 program, host communities receive one centavo per kilowatt-hour (P0.01/kWh) generated by local power plants. These funds have supported rural electrification, disaster response, education, and medical missions.
“As the fruit basket of Benguet, our priority is agriculture. We aim to establish Sablan as a recognized agricultural hub. These funds will directly support our farmers and help ensure food security for our community,” said Sablan Mayor Alfredo Dacumos Jr.
La Trinidad will use its share to expand electrification across 16 barangays, targeting remote areas. “Many of our remote communities still live without electricity. This affects children the most, as they are forced to study and live in darkness,” explained Mayor Romeo Salda. “With Hedcor’s support, we’re powering up these barangays and national highway communities.”
Tuba Municipality plans to improve water systems and address flood-prone areas.
“These community shares do more than just provide financial support. They directly impact thousands of lives, strengthening local economies, improving public services, and helping communities become more resilient,” said Noreen Vicencio, Hedcor’s General Manager for Hydro Operations.
Hedcor operates 22 run-of-river hydropower facilities and multiple solar power plants nationwide, with nine located in Benguet. All Hedcor Group companies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of AboitizPower through Aboitiz Renewables, Inc.
