Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal Sr. has been awarded the Gawad Parangal by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) in recognition of his leadership in promoting peace and development in the province. The award was presented during the 6th NTF-ELCAC Founding Anniversary at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

The Gawad Parangal honors individuals and local governments that have made significant contributions to ending local armed conflicts and advancing peace initiatives. Governor Oaminal expressed gratitude to the people of Misamis Occidental, local officials, and partner agencies for their collective efforts in achieving the province’s peaceful transformation. His leadership has been pivotal in declaring Misamis Occidental an insurgency-free province.

The event, themed “Building Peace Better,” celebrated the achievements over the past six years in addressing armed conflict and fostering national unity. Key officials, including NTF-ELCAC Chairperson President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., represented by National Security Adviser Eduardo Año, attended the ceremony to acknowledge the efforts of local governments, law enforcement, and community groups in achieving lasting peace.

For nearly four decades, Misamis Occidental faced significant rebel activity. However, on September 27, 2024, President Marcos declared the province free from insurgency, a milestone achieved during Governor Oaminal’s term. Under his leadership, Misamis Occidental adopted a whole-of-nation approach to development, focusing on social, economic, and security reforms. This strategy aligns with the province’s vision of “Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Malipayon” (Peaceful, Progressive, and Happy Misamisnon).

Governor Oaminal emphasized that true peace can only be achieved through adequate livelihood opportunities supported by quality education. He believes that if local governments continue to meet the needs and aspirations of their constituents, achieving harmony within communities will become more attainable.

As Governor Oaminal continues to lead Misamis Occidental towards peace and development, his recognition through the Gawad Parangal serves as a testament to his commitment to fostering a secure and prosperous environment for all residents.
