Globe unveils 1st Connectivity Champions for digital inclusion

Globe Telecom has launched its inaugural Connectivity Champions initiative to recognize individuals and groups who advocate for universal access to digital connectivity. This program highlights the contributions of those who bridge the digital divide and foster a more connected society.

In its first year, Globe selected three winners based on their impact on internet access, innovation in digital inclusion, sustainability, scalability of initiatives, and community influence.

Connectivity Visionary: Delfin Angelo C. Wenceslao

Wenceslao, president and CEO of D.M. Wenceslao and Associates, Inc., received the Connectivity Visionary Award for promoting fiber-ready properties and advocating for connectivity as a basic service. His leadership at Aseana City exemplifies his commitment to seamless connectivity and modern infrastructure.

Connectivity Trailblazer: Guillermo “Bill” Luz

Luz, chairman of Liveable Cities Philippines, earned the Connectivity Trailblazer Award for his efforts in integrating technology into urban development. As co-chairman of the National Competitiveness Council from 2011 to 2018, he facilitated partnerships between government and private sectors to enhance connectivity initiatives. Luz also champions the Liveable Cities Program, focusing on intelligent city development and disaster resilience.

Digital Transformation Award: Ernesto V. Perez

Perez, director general of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), was recognized for his role in advancing policies that promote connectivity and digital inclusion. He has worked to eliminate excessive charges on telecommunications infrastructure imposed by local government units and homeowners’ associations, expediting the deployment of telecom services.

The Connectivity Champions initiative aligns with Globe’s Zero Lease effort, which aims to remove cost barriers for developers to host essential telecom infrastructure. This approach ensures that connectivity becomes more affordable and accessible for all Filipinos.
