Data Lake Inc., the first authorized reseller of Starlink satellite internet in the Philippines, is spearheading digital transformation in underserved communities and improving the reliability of its service. The company recently completed deployments in Tawi-Tawi and Dumaguete City and is also actively addressing a key challenge for satellite internet users: signal obstruction.

Data Lake, with support from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), successfully installed high-speed internet at three public schools in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, from June 6-9. Pag-asa Elementary School, Nalil Elementary School, and Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades each received a Starlink High Performance Kit and a three-month subscription to the 2 TB-per-month Impact Plan. This initiative has provided teachers and students with access to online training, educational resources, and real-time government updates. According to a local teacher, this new connection makes them “feel included in the country’s education system”.

In addition to the school installations, Data Lake enabled the DICT’s “Digital Bayanihan” roadshows in Tawi-Tawi and Dumaguete City. The Tawi-Tawi event, held on June 10, focused on strengthening public-private partnerships to deliver satellite and community WiFi access in remote areas. A week later, on June 17, the Dumaguete City event highlighted the digitalization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), digital career empowerment, and grassroots innovation

Beyond these community projects, Data Lake is also ensuring that customers get a reliable connection, especially when facing obstructions like trees or clouds. Starlink recently released a software update that improves beam switching, allowing dishes to switch between satellite signals more quickly. This upgrade adds a proactive switching mode for stationary dishes, which creates an obstruction map to find alternate satellites. For moving dishes or unexpected obstructions, reactive switching now happens in milliseconds. Data Lake continues to offer 24/7 technical assistance for any connection issues, including those related to obstructions.

By deploying high-speed, low-latency internet in remote areas and ensuring reliable service through technical support and software updates, Data Lake Inc. is fulfilling its mission to bridge the digital divide in the Philippines
