Maynilad celebrates Global Handwashing Day
In celebration of the 2024 Global Handwashing Day (GHD), West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. engaged 600 students and 60 teachers from nine public schools, promoting the importance of proper health and hygiene practices.
Maynilad, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and local governments of Pasay and Quezon City, organized interactive activities that encouraged the youth to adopt lifelong hygiene habits, with a focus on proper handwashing as a key preventive measure against illness.
Maynilad donated handwashing stations and hygiene kits to the schools and conducted water and hygiene education workshops.
“Our dedication to promoting proper hygiene and water conservation extends beyond Global Handwashing Day. We implement these programs year-round because we believe that building healthier communities and ensuring access to safe water are essential to achieving a sustainable future,” said Maynilad Corporate Affairs and Communication head Marie Antonette De Ocampo.
Republic Cement wins Presidential environmental awards
Republic Cement received two citations at the 2023 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Awards (PMIEA) held at the Malacañang Palace last October 16.
Republic Cement won for Quarry Operations (Non-Metallic Category) for its Batangas and Teresa plants.
Presented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources—Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR—MGB), the awards recognize organizations that have demonstrated outstanding performance in responsible mining, environmental conservation and safety excellence.

Mambajao sets up emergency response command center
The Mambajao local government unit has partnered with NGA 911 the global leader in next-generation emergency response systems which is currently used in the United States to provide advanced solutions that integrate communication technologies to improve emergency services.
The municipality on October 18 put up its cutting edge, first-ever emergency response command center in the island.
Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo said existing emergency services were limited or fragmented.
“As a top tourist destination, the safety and well-being of visitors is paramount. Having an advanced emergency response center adds to Mambajao’s appeal as a safe and secure destination, thus contributing to its economic growth by boosting tourism and investor confidence,” Romualdo said.
Robert Llaguno, country head of NGA Philippiness said once the system becomes operational, all 911 calls to the Mambajao DRRM Command Center will be fully recorded, with call and call transfer facilities that are seamless.
